Quick info
About ALLINGTON CAFE
Allington Cafe is a cafe in Chippenham, on Allington, attached to a farm shop and open daily. Dogs are welcome, and cakes and puddings are made on site each day by the pastry chef. The kitchen cooks to order, and the cooked breakfast comes with butcher sausage and bacon. Lunch includes deep filled sandwiches and toasties, among them a chicken toastie and a sourdough toastie served with salad and coleslaw. A daily specials board changes what is on offer, and scones arrive with clotted cream and strawberry preserve for afternoon tea. Customers order and pay at the counter, where a selection of cakes and treats is displayed, and the food is brought to the table. There is a queue at the door, and guests are seated when a table frees up.

Customer Review Summary
Homemade cakes are what reviewers mention most, with the scones served with a generous amount of clotted cream and strawberry preserve singled out as the winner. Cakes are also described as divine and hard to resist beside a cappuccino or a cup of tea. Close behind are the cooked dishes: a salmon fillet and gammon steak both called fresh, a chicken toastie, and a cooked breakfast with proper butcher sausage and bacon. Portions come up repeatedly as generous and filling, and service as friendly and quick, with orders placed at the counter and food brought to the table. The attached farm shop earns steady praise for its range of meats, wine and chutney. The main caveats are cost and crowds. A few call the cafe not cheap or note some steep prices, there is often a line or short wait for a table, and one reviewer found the Millionaire Roulade too creamy, quite sickly by the end. A couple of reviewers advise checking the specials board. One reviewer's sourdough toastie arrived with rice, salad and coleslaw.

“Had brunch there. Staff are fab and the food was delicious. Fairly high price of £15-20 each, but worth it for the quality.”

“I am a fan of farm shops, and enjoyed the food here. The winner for me is their scones served with a generous amount of clotted cream and strawberry preserve. Delicious 😄 There is a farm store attached to the cafe, with an amazing selection of poultry, lamb, beef cuts, wine, chutney, organic vegetables, fruits and dairy products.”

“I’ve just found this gem of a cafe on my way from Bristol to Basingstoke. I knew it would be good when I arrived there was a queue of people waiting for it to open. Lovely people and great food. Highly recommend 👍”

“I’m a big fan of farm shops and garden centres as you can usually find really good, fresh food there. This was my first visit here after a walk around Lacock National Trust, and it was recommended by friends, what a great find! The dining area feels modern with lots of different seating areas. The cakes looked amazing and I honestly wanted to try them all. We ordered the salmon fillet and the gammon steak, and both were fresh and delicious. The cappuccino was properly made and the cakes were divine. Highly recommend, especially if you’re visiting Lacock or nearby and want a nice place to relax and eat. Very friendly service from all. Everyone was very friendly and professional, Special mention to the lovely lady in the Garden and Farm Shop outside. She was so sweet, helpful and kind. I ended up buying two robins! Thank you ☺️”
