About Hartley Farm Shop & Kitchen

Hartley Farm Shop & Kitchen is a cafe on Winsley in Bradford On Avon, run by a fifth-generation farming family that raises its own grass-fed beef and organic vegetables. A farm shop sits on site beside the kitchen, and a smaller second cafe operates as well. The kitchen is open daily for breakfast and lunch, with the Farmhouse Breakfast and poached eggs on bubble and squeak on the morning menu. Lunch brings pizza and burgers, and a vegan burger with a pea and butter bean patty sits within a large choice of vegan and vegetarian dishes, alongside gluten-free options. Dogs are welcome inside, and a wait for a table is common at busy times. The grounds hold small gardens, goats and horses, plus a tractor for children to sit on and a forest-style playground.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast draws most of the praise, especially bubble and squeak, served under poached eggs or shaped into the Greenhouse breakfast's veggie sausage, which one reviewer calls an original idea. The egg benedict and the Smashed Avocado and Poached Eggs, described as faultless with a perfect runny yolk, also earn mentions. Lunch gets credit too, with the pizza, the cabbage burger, the dahl and a vegan burger with a pea and butter bean patty singled out as fresh and delicious. Reviewers also like the coffee, the farm shop, and the outdoor area with animals and a playground built like a forest adventure. The caveats are specific. The Farmhouse Breakfast arrived with cold eggs and mushroom while the beans were super heated, one diner found a burger small for its bun, and another was disappointed that a shop tartlet contained palm oil and emulsifiers. One party without a booking browsed the shop while a table became available, and another reviewer suggests booking. Two diners who are gluten intolerant or coeliac describe staff as attentive.

“What a lovely place. We booked a table online for breakfast this morning. We were greeted straight away and taken to our table. The young waiter who served us was very attentive. The whole team were very efficient. We can highly recommend the egg benedicts that we had. They were by far the best we've had!!! I would definitely recommend booking so as not to disappoint. Can't wait to come back again!”

“We have enjoyed a lovely breakfast at Hartley Farm this morning. Hubby went for the traditional English breakfast while I had the poached eggs on bubble and squeak. Both were well presented and lovely. We were served by Nicole who was cheerful, helpful and brought joy to our table. They are gluten intolerant aware and offer a really good range of options. We visited the shop afterwards which is everything you need when feeling indulgent! As well as a really good range of fresh produce they have a good range of bread and a lovely comprehensive deli. There are plenty of treats and gifts too.”

“Nice setting and range of food. I was however disheartened to find that the roast vegetable tartlet I bought from the farm shop contained the emulsifier E471, E331 and palm oil Charging £4.50 for an individual tartlet implies an artisan, hand-made product, but the additives tell a different story.Real artisan pastry is made with butter, but palm oil is used in factories as a cheap shortcut to extend shelf-life. If I am paying premium prices for local farm quality, I expect traditional ingredients, not a factory-produced item loaded with industrial additives.”

“Really really delicious food, all super fresh and some creative dishes too (the pea and butter bean patty on the vegan burger was incredible)! The farm shop was also cute, with good options for food and decor shopping. Everyone working here was really nice :)”
