Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to this canal-side café above all for its big portions, with the lasagne named repeatedly, alongside the Gert Burger, beer battered fish and chips, faggots with chips and peas, and a large panini. One party needed a doggie bag. Close behind is the setting by the water, where diners sit by the canal or on the barge and watch canoeists, and several mention the friendly staff and dog-friendly welcome. Gluten free, veggie and vegan choices are also praised. The main complaints concern speed and value: one reviewer calls the ordering system slow and congested inside, with unclear signage on where to get menus, and another says food took a while to arrive. One diner found a tuna melt cold with barely melted cheese, a vanilla milkshake odd, and a sandwich with no sides expensive. One reviewer with difficulty on steps found access to the barge awkward but still called it well worth it. A longtime visitor misses the old owners' greeting, while a family returned for a birthday lunch and left with a chocolate milkshake and full plates.

“Great little find. We on a canal boat holiday and stopped for lunch. Lasagne was really good. View and set up really cool and quirky.”

“The Lock Inn Café is a short walk from the main road, and nestled under done lovely trees along the canal. You choose where to sit, and then select from a good range of generally traditional 'pub food' options. They have a proper gluten free menu, making it easy to choose and ensure you don't miss out on the meal. The staff are friendly and helpful, take your order quickly and efficiently. Drinks and food arrive quickly. The prices are very reasonable. You can then take your time, eating the food and watching people canoeing out learning how to steer a canal boat. If you have the time and inclination, the inn has canoes to hire. Nearby there's a big park, with an art and craft village anda couple of kids playgrounds so they can let off some stream. We really like this venue; it's a great place for a lunch break when on a journey somewhere. We have eaten there several times, and will definitely go again. Recommended.”

“Excellently run canal side cafe The manager is very efficient and friendly and she takes obvious pride in her young staff who are a credit to her and their families. The food is good and honestly I could have shared a panini it was that big We also enjoyed a very pleasant canoe trip from The Lock Inn and again the young staff were so helpful.”

“Lovely place to sit for drink and food - right next to the canal. Is also dog friendly which is a plus. Good choice of food on the menu, I had the burger and my partner had a cooked breakfast. Portion size was good and food was reasonably priced. Took a while to come out to us though. Overall very happy”

“Had tuna melt & cheese and ham melt for lunch .. was a bit shocked at JUST the sandwich for nearly £10 each! (No crisps / chips on the side) Tuna one was cold - barely melted cheese and seemed like cold tuna put in after. The ham / cheese one was nice. Vanilla milkshake bit odd, sweetened milk, and ice cream floating .. Nice spot by the canal and dog friendly.”
