Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the service, describing friendly, hardworking staff who made visitors feel part of the family, including a waitress who quickly sorted out a starter mishap. Close behind is the set menu, called a bargain at lunch. Diners single out the bottomless fries with mayonnaise and the Grand Chocolate Mousse that guests serve themselves. The food draws a more mixed response. One longtime regular found the pork belly less flavourful and the portions smaller than before, and skipped an uninspiring dessert menu. Others report mains that were not hot enough, a fish pie that was well presented but lacking, and a burned onion soup. One family felt rushed by a manager who announced the kitchen was closing, then saw the bill and card machine arrive right after the plates were cleared. Extra drinks added to one bill were removed promptly, and the fish pie came off another bill once management stepped in.

“We weren’t expecting fine dining, and the food was okay, although an hour after we arrived we had to chase up our main course which then arrived very quickly and had clearly been served some time ago based on temperature and congealed sauce. But my chicken was bloody at the centre, and when I pointed this out to the waiter, explaining that I’m immunocompromised, he said I should have alerted him about my immunity when I ordered, then walked away. Nobody expects rare chicken, regardless of their immune system! He should at least said that the chef would be alerted! Very disappointing.”

“Côte has always been one of my favourite restaurants and was excited to visit it with my family on our holiday to Chichester for the week. However I was thoroughly disappointed and unimpressed with the service as we were rushed from the moment we were seated which ruined our family meal. The manager felt the need to tell us as soon as we received our food that if we wanted anything further to order now as the kitchen is closing. Baring in mind there were other patrons that were seemingly left to laugh and socialise peacefully while we were continually pestered to take our plates as soon as we’d swallowed the last bite. Feeling constantly watched under the beady eyes of the manager. As soon as our plates were cleared we asked to see the desert menu to which we observed the staff give each other a look as if to say for goodness sake! Feeling so unwelcomed we at this point just wanted to leave. The bill was then quickly placed on the table followed seconds later with the card machine. To which we asked to have a minute or two. Mating in mind there were still other customers laughing and drinking and left in peace. I will never return based on the treatment of the manager as he needs to learn the art of hospitality.”

“Strange one this, as Cote is one of the few chain restaurants I'll go to. I will say that service tonight was brilliant as it always has been in the many years I've been coming here. What has changed though since my most recent visit, which hasn't been for a while due to travel, is the meals. I've had my favourites on the menu, sadly some of which are no longer there. But one of them is the Pork Belly. I always recall this having so much flavour to it to compliment, but it seems the recipe has been changed somewhat. The portions are notably smaller despite the price increasing, and the flavours didn't fully come through. They were there, just not at the usual levels I've experienced when having this dish here. The dessert menu itself was also really uninspiring, so was skipped. There used to be some really good options, but they're just no longer there. Surprisingly also, it seemed incredibly quiet there, when every time I've previously visited it's been full to the brim. I'm not sure if the above correlates with this, but it would concern me. Like another reviewer also, we did pick up there were extra drinks charged to us, but this was rectified promptly on the bill, which still averaged out to about £45 a head for two courses and 3 drinks. I'm not entirely sure I'll be in a rush to return, as I'm getting the impression Cote in general has lost its way with the menus. Cannot fault the staff in any way though.”
