About The Barn
The Barn is a brunch restaurant in Chichester, with bookable cabins in the garden and a cafe area at 40 East St. The cafe shelves hundreds of cookbooks, and visitors can browse them before ordering. The breakfast and brunch menu includes Welsh rarebit and shakshuka with halloumi. Cinnamon buns come from the same kitchen. The drinks list covers flat whites, iced chai and Mimosas. A shop alongside the cafe sells gifts and home items, and the decor is vintage. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the coffee, with a flat white and the coffee in general called great or superb. Close behind are the brunch plates, including Welsh rarebit, shakshuka with halloumi, and a cinnamon bun one diner counts among the best they have had. A mimosa and an iced chai also get praise. Others describe an evening of prosecco, red wine and nibbles of olives, cheese and almonds. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and welcoming, and the shop and the cookbooks in the cafe area draw comments about quirky charm. A few find it pricey, though one calls the quality ingredients worth it. One reviewer in a birthday group reports slow service, bones and hair in a dish, and forgotten fries. The dish and the fries were taken off the bill, but the reviewer felt the apology was thin. One reviewer thinks the garden cabins need booking ahead. Several enjoy the courtyard, where one server told a pair they were welcome to stay and linger after finishing.

“I didn't have a great experience as went with a group for someone's birthday and inspite of a nice place the service was slow, I found some bones and hair in my food that to be considerate I mentioned to the staff for which they took the tax off the bill for one dish not even being much apologetic which for the expensive prices we payed for each dish wasn't really fair, friends fries were completely forgotten but they took it off the bill after we mentioned. Overall I won't recommend it due to my own experience.”

“We stumbled upon this little gem by accident while on holiday in the area and had lunch. The decor is quirky and vintage, the welcome was warm, the service throughout was friendly and food delicious. We sat in the courtyard which was beautiful. We are sad we aren't from the area as would otherwise regularly return! Highly recommend based on our experience today.”

“I had been here some years back for lunch and remembered how lovely it was so I was delighted to find it again when we were in Chichester for a theatre weekend. My friend and I had the most lovely breakfast - with a Mimosa which was wonderful! We sat outside in the courtyard, they found us a table in the shade which was kind. There are little cabins but I think you need to book ahead to be sure of getting one. What I thought was really special though is that once we had finished our server made it clear we didnt need to rush away and invited us to stay a while and enjoy the courtyard. Everything about this cafe is lovely!”

“Wonderful brunch experience. Beautiful quality food and lovely presentation. It is on the pricey side (for us), but worth it for the quality ingredients. Nice shop too with some great gifts and home items.”

“This was my first time here and I’m so impressed! The food, drinks, and atmosphere were incredible. Debbie and the rest of the lovely staff looked after my friend and me so well. Debbie was incredibly mindful, even proactively offering us the Wi-Fi password. The food was superb—the shakshuka with halloumi and the iced chai were both delicious. It’s a beautiful, friendly hidden gem of a place. I'll definitely be back and will recommend this to more friends!”
