Quick info
About The Cricketers Mill Green
The Cricketers Mill Green is a gastropub on Mill Green Rd in Ingatestone, set in a Victorian building in the countryside with a large garden. The Sunday roast comes with sirloin of beef or pork, roast potatoes and giant Yorkshire puddings, which gives the garden-side lunch a clear centrepiece. The menu runs to 35 dishes, and The Finger Licking Platter To Share suits a table that wants to pass plates around. Sticky toffee pudding sits on the dessert menu, and a few gluten free dishes are available. Table reservations take a deposit per head, which is taken off the bill. The pub handles big groups.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast draws the most mentions, with praise for the sirloin of beef and pork, a generous portion of vegetables, roast potatoes and giant Yorkshire puddings. One returning diner called the beef roast even better than on a visit three months earlier. Sticky toffee pudding comes up close behind and is described as unbelievably light, though another reviewer wanted more sauce. Diners also single out the burger, beef stroganoff, tandoori chicken skewers, a lamb rump special, and the ice cream and sorbet. The roast is also where the sharpest complaints land. One reviewer sent back beef that was tough, with soggy, salty vegetables, and a replacement Caesar salad reportedly had bones in it. Another felt parts of a small roast had been reheated, found the roast potatoes very dry, and judged the food poor value. A third called the prawn cocktail's tiny prawns tasteless. Service is repeatedly called friendly, and the manager took the sent-back dish without any fuss. One group of over 20 had all their food served at the same time.

“I don’t usually leave reviews, and I don’t like complaining, but unfortunately the food was below par on this visit. The menu looked good, and some of the dishes on other tables looked great too. The tagliatelle and the fish and chips at our table were both enjoyed. Unfortunately, the rest of the meal was disappointing. The kids weren’t keen on their burgers, and my small roast dinner seemed as though parts of it had been reheated. The roast potatoes were very dry, which spoiled what could have been an otherwise decent meal. The setting is lovely and the service was okay, but overall I didn’t feel the food offered good value for the prices charged.”

“Very disappointed with our experience yesterday. We ordered the beef Sunday roast and had to send it back as it honestly tasted like it had been cooked a week ago. The meat was extremely tough, the vegetables were soggy, salty and basically inedible. To be fair, the manager was kind and took the dish back without any issue, so we decided to order a Caesar salad instead. Unfortunately, that was no better — I was shocked to find bones in the salad. The breast was overcooked, cut into huge chunky pieces, and the whole plate was badly presented. I’m really not sure who is supervising the kitchen or checking the plates before they leave, but the food quality seriously needs attention. The only positive part of the experience was the staff, who were all very friendly and polite. Sadly, the food itself was an absolute disaster. Thank you for your reply, but I am even more confused by the response. From the photos, it is clearly a Caesar salad — you can see lettuce and salad ingredients. It definitely was not a chicken supreme, and that was not what we ordered or what was on the menu. Unfortunately, this response does not address the poor quality of the food and gives the impression there is confusion about what was actually served.”

“First visit here but definitely not the last, lovely pub in a lovely area. The food was excellent and was served by a young lady called Isobel who was extremely polite and helpful. My wife is coeliac and so requires a gluten free diet they had a few dishes but could expand their gluten free options, will definitely be returning”

“Came here on Thursday evening for an anniversary dinner. It was quite quiet when we first arrived but a couple more tables came in shortly afterwards. We had excellent service from a very nice lady. Was slightly disappointed at first as there was no steak option on the menu but had the burger and beef stroganoff which were excellent so no problem in the end. The ice cream and sorbet were delicious. The prawn cocktail to start, however, was not very nice. The prawns were just those tiny tasteless ones and it came through. The tandoori chicken skewers however were delicious and the side salad we had with the mains was very fresh and delicious. The Malbec Las Palmas Red is a solid choice too! I would happily come back and we really enjoyed our evening!”
