About Thin White Duke
Thin White Duke is a restaurant and bar in Carlisle, set in a converted monastery building on Devonshire St, with a name that alludes to David Bowie. Customer Review Summary
The burger anchors the praise, with one reviewer calling the Duke Burger possibly the best they have ever had and another returning after years to find the burger as good as before. Fish and chips come close behind, with crispy batter and chunky chips, while the haddock, the key lime pie and a chicken in a basket also earn singled-out praise. Beer draws steady comment too, from cask and keg choices to local cask from West Walls, Allendale and Beaverton beers, and a fine Old Fashioned later in the evening. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, helpful and polite, and a few reviewers mention a lively, romantic atmosphere and clean toilets. One reviewer notes it is always busy and suggests booking ahead. Another, who first ate there while walking Hadrians Wall Path, came back with family and found the burger and fish and chips still great.

“My first visit here was in 2018, when I walked Hadrians Wall Path. I had a great Burger and Chips. So, I was excited that this location still exists, when I visited the region with my family this year. And we had still great fish and chips and burger. Nice location with fast and nice staff, good food and nice to see, that it made it to this day! I will definitely pop in, when I'm next time in Carlisle, hope it will not just be in eight years.”

“A very fine pub. The fine of fine dinning. Every small bite is so so tasty. Would recommend everyone to stop by and try. I wasn’t expecting this in this small town. The haddock is especially yum!!”
