About Carlisle express
Carlisle Express is an Indian takeaway on London Rd in Carlisle, serving curries, naan and biryani. Its starters include chicken tikka and chicken pakora. The Munchie box is one set-format choice on the menu, and midweek set meal deals are another, aimed at orders placed in the middle of the week. Orders come with chips. Everything is prepared as a takeaway, so the menu is built around food to take home.

Customer Review Summary
Curries draw the most praise, with reviewers describing fast delivery, food that arrived hot, and curries better than any they had eaten in Carlisle. Biryani and naan are mentioned alongside them, and the midweek meal deal comes up more than once, with one reviewer recommending it and another saying half a set is plenty. The munchie box is called good value with tasty food, and one reviewer singles out the hot specials for their spice. Friendly staff are noted in several reviews. Complaints centre on salt: a tikka korma was too salty to finish, and another reviewer found the chips and chicken tikka starters close to inedible despite a good curry. Others report thin, watery sauce, tikka pieces that seemed like fried cubed chicken, a pakora compared to chicken nuggets, scampi that seemed a mixed paste, and a biryani with undercooked, oily rice. One family order of two set meals still left a full curry, a full portion of rice and a naan uneaten.

“Have had from here a few times now and every other time has been pretty good, however, got our usual last week and both of us were extremely ill the next day. I have a tikka korma every time and I've no idea what they did that night but it was extremely salty, I couldn't even finish it was that bad. Needless to say I won't be going back as I've never trusted takeaways to provide fresh food but like to try some every now and again when I can't be bothered to cook. They've rebranded recently so not sure if it was because of the standard in there or not but would make sense.”

“Phenomenal, munchie box is a ridiculous price for the value of the stuff in side pretty much a tenner. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and most importantly bloody tasty food. What more could you want?”

“1st time ordering here, that was only because CHUTNEYS is closed . Worst Indian takeaway I have ever had. Sauce was very thin and watery. Chicken tikka pieces were definitely not chicken tikka, more like cubed chicken, fried and dumped into sauce. Waste of a lot of money, I have made nicer Indian curry’s myself, very disappointed. Chicken pakora had no taste, just like kids chicken nuggets Don’t waste your money.”

“Rice biryani wasn't cooked enough and was full of oil. Taste was alright but chewing the rice was a quite a struggle.”

“Curry was pretty good but really salty, the chips were so salty they were basically inedible, same for the chicken tikka starters. The mono were awesome though. Won't order again, just far too much salt in everything.”
