About The Ivy Asia Cardiff

The Ivy Asia Cardiff is an Asian restaurant at 45 The Hayes in Cardiff, set inside St David's Shopping Centre. A live DJ plays in the dining room, which adds late-night entertainment to the meal. Asian-inspired artwork and floral decorations dress the room. The menu runs from small to large plates, with dishes selected to share, and pork belly is among them. An experience tasting menu gives a set route through the kitchen's dishes. Cocktails sit alongside a drinks selection, and guests can choose cutlery or chopsticks to eat with. The menu carries a QR code for dietary restrictions, with limited coeliac and vegetarian choices.

Customer Review Summary

The caveats are specific. One reviewer found the sushi rice stale and the soya sauce too salty, and another struggled to flag down a waiter in a quiet restaurant with plenty of staff. A bridal party found very sparse choice for coeliac, vegetarian and non-fish eaters, with some guests left with plain rice and vegetables, and that reviewer suggests checking the menu ahead. One diner felt the live DJ's club music did not suit the restaurant and would prefer Asian music.

“We had a delicious meal in the Ivy Asia, selecting a few different things to share. Couldn’t even choose a favourite it was so good! Jess our waitress was absolutely lovely, tending to our every need with a smile:)”

“The venue is beautiful. Very elegant and grand in design. We came for a bridal party dinner, which we booked ahead for and informed of dietary requirements. While the menu does have a QR to access dietary restrictions, for those who are coeliac, vegetarian or non-fish eaters, there is very sparse choice. Some of our guests could only order plain rice and vegetables. I’d recommend checking the menu throughly ahead of time.”

“We had lunch at The Asian Ivy in Cardiff today and it was excellent from start to finish. The food was fantastic, full of flavour, and the portion sizes were very generous. As it was my birthday, I was pleasantly surprised with a complimentary dessert complete with a candle, which was a lovely touch and made the occasion feel extra special. A special thank you to Owen, who looked after us brilliantly throughout our visit. His friendly, attentive service really added to the experience. We'll definitely be returning and wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Asian Ivy to anyone looking for great food, generous portions and outstanding service. Thank you for making my birthday so memorable!”

“Had the best night here in June 2026. The food was fantastic, loved absolutely everything and the cocktails were delicious. It was busy, but we weren’t rushed, even if we did hang about longer than necessary. Big shout out to Alex who looked after us all so well. Great sense of humour, even rating our use of chopsticks 😂 Thanks for making our evening!”

“Very cool concept of a restaurant, with very nice and unique decorations and excellent food. The only two small complaints: The sushi wasn't that good. We might have just gotten a bad batch, but the rice felt stale and the soya sauce was too salty. The service was good, but it was surprisingly difficult to flag down our waiter. We went at an awkward time so there were not that many tables occupied, while still having a huge amount of staff, so it's a little surprising that we had to put in extra effort to get service.”
