About Greek Village

Greek Village is a restaurant on Caroline Street in Cardiff, with a front that looks like a kebab shop or takeaway and seating both at the front and further back. The back room has art on the walls and Greek music playing. Souvlaki comes in lamb, chicken or pork, served with chips, bread, salad and tzatziki. Gyros are made with chicken, pork or falafel, which gives vegetarian diners an option. A sharing platter for two brings lamb skewers with chips, bread and salad. Greek beers and soft drinks make up the drinks list.

Customer Review Summary

Gyros draw the most mentions, with diners praising the chicken, pork and falafel versions as good sized and full of flavour, and one calling the falafel the best they have tasted. Close behind are the souvlaki and skewers served with chips, bread, salad and tzatziki, while moussaka and feta filo pastry also earn praise from one diner. Greek beers such as Mythos are mentioned too. Reviewers describe a kebab shop front that opens onto a decorated back room with Greek music, and several call the staff friendly and the service quick. Portions are repeatedly called generous. Opinions on the food are not unanimous. One reviewer found it mid, another said the chicken in their gyros tasted and smelled odd even though the pita and tzatziki were good, one disliked the green salad, and one reports a long wait for their order. The sharing platter for two prompted one diner to say it held enough food for another two people.

“Concept: After attending a seminar in Cardiff University (15/06/2026 - 19/06/2026), my palate was starving for Greek food. The nearest Greek restaurant was called "Greek village" and it was 0.3 miles away from my hotel. The route was tricky since my GPS was not helpful at all. Finally, I'm glad that I made it. Timing of visit: Monday 15/06/2026, 19:50-21:00. Order: Feta filo pastry and mousaka. Price: £22.50. Quality of mousaka/pitta bread/tomatoes/feta filo pastry: 9* (amazing). Quality of green salad: 2* (not my cup of tea - I prefer the traditional choriatiki). Method of payment: Debit card. Staff: 5* (helpful). Service: 9* (the waiting time to be served was reasonable). Atmosphere: 9* (relaxing with Greek music).”

“Food is quite mid, nothing terrible but definitely room for improvement I would recommend the skewers. The portions are generous which makes up for a lot. Staff and Service is amazing tho. 10/10 vibes”

“What a fantastic little find in Cardiff! From the outside it looks like a simple kebab shop, but step through to the back and you’ll discover a beautifully decorated, cosy little restaurant with traditional Greek music playing — it genuinely feels like you’ve been transported to Greece. The food was outstanding and incredible value for money. Lamb souvlaki was £8.50 and chicken souvlaki £7.50, both served with chips, fresh bread, salad and a really well-made tzatziki. The portions were generous and everything tasted fresh and authentic. The platters are amazing value too — three lamb skewers with chips, bread and salad for £16.50 is hard to beat. They also serve local lagers including Mythos and other Greek beers, which really added to the experience. The place was spotless and the service was exceptional — friendly, welcoming and efficient. Perfect for a quick bite or a more substantial meal. We’ll definitely be coming back!”
