  “We visited Fancett’s yesterday to celebrate my birthday, and what a wonderful experience it was! The food is absolutely delicious – honestly, I would say it’s the best food in the area! Every dish was beautifully prepared, full of flavour and simply outstanding. The service is top-notch, with such friendly, attentive and welcoming staff who really make the whole experience special. The location is also fantastic, easy to get to, with convenient parking right outside (and it’s free after 6pm!). Such a lovely place for a special occasion, and definitely somewhere we’ll keep coming back to. Highly recommended!”

  “Hit and miss is how I would qualify this restaurant. We went for set 3 courses lunch. The starters and desserts were good, the main courses were questionnable... Definitely not what I was expecting from a restaurant in the Michelin guide... See pictures”

  “My husband and I had a lovely lunch to celebrate his birthday at Fancett’s. It is a small beautiful restaurant a short walk from Cambridge train station. There was a cosy authentic setting with very attentive staff. Fancett’s came recommended by a friend and it was full on a Wednesday afternoon so booking is definitely essential. We had the 3 course lunch and all the food was delicious. The stand out for us was definitely the blood orange crepes for pudding. The only thing I’d say is we didn’t leave feeling as full as we would have expected as the portions aren’t overly generous. Still, it is good value for money for the quality of food you get and we would definitely come back.”

  “Had dinner here about a week ago - 1 of the best meals we've ever had - not just from a food POV - but also including the service & atmosphere. On the food side - the flavours are incredible. The quality of the ingredients are amazing. The craftsmanship of the cooking - utterly outstanding - such an amazing menu and expertly executed. The one thing I really have to point out is the focaccia - I have never, ever eaten focaccia as good as it - it was so light, so delicate, the crust was perfect - honestly - it's worth a trip here just for that. The service staff were just brilliant - so knowledgeable, so friendly and accommodating. Taking everything into account - it lead to one of the best dining experiences we've ever had. If you are in Cambridge - you have got to add this to your list - I can not praise it / recommend it highly enough. We'll definitely be going back there.”

  “We had a fantastic experience at Fancett’s in Cambridge. The food was excellent and the service truly outstanding: attentive, warm, and thoughtful throughout. We chose three courses from the menu du jour and every dish was a delight. Highlights included the beautifully balanced trout rillette, a flavourful guinea fowl sausage, and an exceptional cheddar soufflé. For dessert, we enjoyed Manchego cheese with membrillo and crackers, along with an Opera gâteau—which wasn’t on the menu that day, but the waiter kindly reserved a portion for us. A lovely touch! Everything was perfectly paired with a crisp, cold Albariño (Attis), which complemented the meal wonderfully. Afterwards, we realised Fancett’s is recommended in the Michelin Guide, and it’s easy to see why. This is cooking of a very high standard. Don’t hesitate to visit if you’re in Cambridge. If they keep this up, that Michelin star surely won’t be far off.”

  “I went on a friend-date here for lunch. I enjoyed it! The service was very good! The staff were very attentive and the timing of each course was perfect. The wine list was good, they had a very good selection of higher end wines. The food was okay and it is possible that I ordered the wrong things but I didn’t really like most of it, except the desert that was mostly good. For a started there was the choice of mushroom soup or mackerel on a beet. I went with the mackerel which itself was good. It was served on a very thick slice of cooked beet. It was also served with a horseradish puree the was a tad too mild given the strong flavour of that very large slice of beet. There were also apple sticks and these were a very nice addition. For the main there was a choice between duck with lentil and a cheese soufflé. I got the cheese soufflé. It was heavy. There was a lot of cream and a lot of oil. It left me feeling over oiled. I was also hoping for more from the mushrooms, like a stronger flavour since the rest did not have a strong flavour. From what I could taste there were only normal button mushrooms. This was a letdown and I probably should have gotten the duck leg. We got a side of french fries. They were dill flavoured. I did not like them. They were dry and didn’t have the right salt balance. Then for the desert I got the Bakewell tart. It was a fairly basic desert but done very well with figs. This I really liked. It also had a crispy cookie that was a nice addition. The only thing that didn’t match the flavours was the ice cream. The went with a vanilla elderflower ice cream which unfortunately was not subtle. I really wanted to love this place and make it one of my regulars (for the occasional £75 lunch). However, it sadly always came very close but missed the mark. I wouldn’t be completely off trying it again but I wouldn’t go out of my way either. People seem to love this place so it could have been just a bad menu.”
