About The EDGE Café
The EDGE Café is a community cafe on Mill Rd in Cambridge, staffed by people in recovery from drug and alcohol misuse, and it doubles as a peer support hub. The food menu includes veggie quiche with salad and avo toast, and coffee is served alongside, espresso among it. Cakes and baked goods come from the counter, with carrot cake one of them. Each table has a laminated chessboard, and books and games are there for customers to use. The cafe runs activities for local people, so it works as a meeting place as well as somewhere to eat. The team also caters events, including vegan menus and drop-off orders.

Customer Review Summary
Cake is the draw reviewers raise most, with banana and walnut cake, carrot cake and a raspberry and blueberry cake all singled out as delicious, and one calling the banana and walnut the best cake ever. Coffee comes close behind, described as really good, and the veggie quiche and salad earns praise as fantastic food. Catering also gets a mention, with one organiser describing a vegan menu, several drop offs to work around limited fridge space, and delegates complimenting the food. Several describe friendly, welcoming staff and a community café feel, with books, games and a laminated chessboard on the tables, plus outdoor seating. The caveats are few but specific. One reviewer was questioned at the door by a staff member, told to leave, and left feeling unwelcome, though the person at the counter served their coffee kindly. Another found the avocado on their avo toast overripe, and the café offered a cake or another drink to make up for it.

“This cafe is so good. The staff service is lovely and that creates a very welcoming atmosphere. On top of that the food is top rate. I'm tucking into a delicious banana and walnut cake right now. Best cake ever.”

“I was told this place is warm and welcoming but upon arrival today I started by checking the outside notice board when a women came out and without introducing herself or making me aware who she was or why she was engaging with me started questioning me with suspicion about why bi was here and then proceeded to "tell me off " for stating in the window!!! I advised I was reading the notices whereby she told me she didn't believe me (calling me a liar) and that I was to leave! I advised her I simply wished to pop in for a drink and see me friend who works there and she walked back in grumbling about me to the other customers!!! I then met a chap on the counter who kindly served me coffee and seated me away from the " unwelcoming women" I sat to drink my expresso when unwelcoming women started to patrol the area behind wherever Sat in an intimidating way. My friend isn't in for another hour so I left quickly after my coffee I am registered mentally disabled with autism and I struggle to understand society as it is without support workers at a drop in centre challenging me without reason and making me feel unwelcome and treating me unfairly! This is known as Ablelism and is tantamount to racism Not a nice experience doubt I'll ever gp there again!”

“Lovely cafe. I popped in to have a cuppa before an appointment nearby. The cafe was clean and the staff were welcoming. There were a couple of customers eating breakfast, but it wasn't busy during my time there (09.50-10.20). I love that there are books and games available for customer use, my table had a laminated chessboard on it. I will definitely be returning to try the food and baked goods!!”

“I need to be fair, the place and the people are quite nice. I ordered an avo toast and sadly the avocado was overripe. They kindly offered to make it up with a cake or another drink. Other than everything was good. Really good coffee!”
