About Orlene's Kitchen Cafe
Orlene's Kitchen Cafe sits on Peas Hill in Cambridge, pairing a coffee shop counter with a menu of Jamaican dishes. Alongside jerk chicken, goat curry, and rasta pasta, the kitchen turns out a cheese and mango salsa toastie, plus cookies, brownies, and cakes for those wanting something with their coffee or hot chocolate. Service runs on a walk-in basis, so there's no need to book ahead before dropping by. The cafe opens Tuesday to Sunday and stays closed on Mondays. The menu spans both familiar cafe fare and Jamaican staples, giving visitors a choice between a straightforward coffee and pastry stop or a fuller plate. The location in central Cambridge places it within easy reach for anyone passing through the area on a given day.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the jerk chicken, cheese and mango salsa toastie, with one calling the salsa "the bomb" and another recommending it outright. Close behind are the baked treats, where a chocolate cookie, brownies and cakes get praise, along with the hot chocolate and coffee. Several mention a goat curry and rasta pasta they want to return for, and one reviewer enjoys the Jamaican cuisine but misses a main jerk chicken dish with rice. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and welcoming, and the room is described as chill, relaxing and home from home, with comfy chairs. One reviewer calls the lunch healthy and a change from the tourist traps. The one negative account is serious: a reviewer says they saw a server filming and shouting at a customer who reported hair in a meal, and describes the behaviour toward a foreign family as discriminatory, which put their group off eating. Another reviewer sheltered from heavy rain and found the food delicious and the service friendly.

“Came in with my mates to try this place out and saw the server filming and shouting at a customer who reported hair in their meal apparently . Cambridge has become a place thriving off student and international diversity and tourism. It baffles me to see in 2026 such appalling and discriminatory behaviour to helpless foreign family tourists at an establishment like this. The gal was crying and it honestly put us off the meal.”

“Lovely cafe in central Cambridge with really friendly staff. I recommend the cheese and mango salsa toastie!”
