About The Petersfield
On Sturton St in Cambridge, The Petersfield is a pub with a bar area at the front and a separate dining area behind it. The kitchen serves British pub food, including fish and chips and a Sunday roast with several roast meats, beef among them, and vegetables on the plate. Sticky toffee pudding is among the desserts, and the bar stocks a wide range of drinks. A pub quiz is held on site, with questions and answers read out over a PA so every table can follow along. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along for a meal or a quiz night.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is the main draw at this Cambridge pub, with diners describing big helpings of tender, well cooked meat and a good selection of vegetables, and one saying it felt home cooked. Close behind are the dark chocolate and ginger crème brûlée, which one reviewer found rich, and the onion rings and fish and chips, praised for a genuinely big fish fillet under the batter. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and a few mention the wide range of drinks. The caveat is inconsistency in the kitchen. One Sunday roast arrived cold with a quarter of a carrot and three pale potatoes, and another reviewer found the bavette steak well done when ordered medium rare, with salty fries and a bland chicory salad. Others found the fish and chips and onion rings lacking seasoning, the burger dry, and the sticky toffee pudding a bit dry. A gluten free diner noted unlabelled menus and slow drinks. Tourists who stumbled into the pub quiz heard every question over the PA.

“Not great for gluten free. Menu not labelled. No gf beer on tap, few options esp for desert. Didn’t replace non gf bits like Yorkshire puds so meals were too small. Very tasty but far too small . Drinks were very slow”

“First visit to this pub and will definitely go again when visiting. Cosy atmosphere, friendly staff and good service. Superb Sunday roast, felt very home cooked. Three of us had different roast meats and all were fabulous, tender and very well cooked, all served with a good selection of vegetables on the plate. Very healthy portion size too. We felt too full for desert but HAD to order a dark chocolate and ginger crème brûlée to share which was rich and absolutely scrumptious.”

“Table for 2 on a saturday night- we were sat in the bar area which was pretty raucous on a Saturday evening and had I’d known that this was where we would be sat, instead of the dining area behind the bar, I would have refrained from booking so maybe before booking, check that this is the case! The food was mediocre at best- starter was stilton/leek tart which looked like a slab of omelette on the plate with some watercress - no crust at all- my partner’s had the chicory salad which was very bland and presentation was pretty poor all round- we ordered the burger and bavette steak- both came with fries that looked like the ends of a frozen bag- very salty and the bavette steak which I asked to be medium rare was well done- for nearly £20 a main, i was really disappointed. The posset for dessert also had big lumps of lemon zest that were not very pleasant either. Sadly, we shall not be returning.”
