About The Alexandra Arms

The Alexandra Arms is a corner pub at 22-24 Gwydir St in Cambridge, with a menu that features the Celine Dion burger, a Canadian-inspired build of maple syrup bacon and goat cheese. The kitchen also serves a Sunday roast at lunchtime and gammon and eggs, with the gammon cured with a little maple syrup. Guests order food and drinks from their table and pay through the pub's website, so there is no need to queue at the bar. The Garden Room is a private space for groups of up to 30 people, booked in advance, and it has a TV and soundbar that hosts use for karaoke. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Burgers draw the most mentions, led by the Celine Dion burger, a Canadian-inspired one with maple syrup bacon and goat cheese, with the Classic and the Brooklyn also singled out as winners. Sunday roasts come close behind, described as generous in size with plenty on the plate. The separately hired garden room is praised by groups for its decor, its TV and soundbar that let them run karaoke, and helpful staff, with one reviewer advising booking at least two weeks ahead. Reviewers also mention lovely staff, well-kept beers at reasonable prices, a welcome for dogs and a toddler, and ordering and paying from the table through the website. The main criticism is mixed: one diner found the burgers a little bland and wanting more flavour, though the sides were great, and another felt the outside area was a bit cramped. Several diners close on the gammon and eggs, cured with a touch of maple syrup, and the couples playing cards at two-seater tables.

“The pub has a great atmosphere, and the staff are friendly and helpful. They also have a really convenient website that lets you order and pay directly from your table. The food is decent overall. The sides were great, but unfortunately the burgers were a little bland and could use more flavour.”

“This is the 2nd Sunday lunch I've had in this pub now and I will definitely be going again. Such a nice Sunday roast. Very rare I eat everything but couldn't leave anything behind as it was all so nice. It's a very good size too and plenty of everything on the plate. No holding back. Amazing. My favourite Sunday lunch in a pub for many many years. Try their burgers too. Absolute a must as well.”

“Absolutely the best place in Cambridge to book a private room for a group of up to 30 people! I hosted an event in The Garden Room and it exceeded all expectations. The decor is stunning with beautiful golden woody interior details and great ambient lighting. The room layout is entirely flexible, and the facilities are amazing. Having access to a TV and a soundbar made it incredibly easy to run our own entertainment such as karaoke. A massive plus for groups: the room is completely soundproof! We could be as loud as we wanted without worrying about disturbing the rest of the pub. It also has great insulation, which kept us cozy on a cooler day, but the doors and windows are super easy to open if the room gets a bit hot. Another incredible perk is that guests can order and pay for food and drinks directly from the table. Finally, the staff were super helpful and accommodating from start to finish. Just make sure to book at least two weeks in advance as this space gets snapped up quickly. Highly recommend!”

“For central Cambridge the prices are great for a lovely meal or drink with family, friends or even your four legged companions. The wait was barely a wait and we were served the two of the most delicious burgers we have had up to date, I highly recommend the Celine Dion Burger for anyone who can't make their minds up when they come to eat! Lovely staff who made sure we were welcome and kept the areas punctually clean and warm. Great place, phenomenal staff what else could you ask for?”
