About The Elm Tree
The Elm Tree is a pub in Cambridge, at 16A Orchard St among residential back streets. Its Belgian beer list is the main draw, with Delirium and lambic styles on offer and a tasting description provided for each beer, which helps when choosing something unfamiliar. Real ales are served on draught, and the selection changes regularly. Bottled continental beers, ciders and soft drinks are also available. The pub sells drinks only, with no food. Old real ale signs decorate the walls, and board games are available to play at the tables. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return to The Elm Tree mainly for its Belgian beers, with several pointing to the wide range, from Delirium to lambic styles, and to the handy tasting descriptions for each one. One reviewer recommends the Christmas beer. Close behind is the real ale, described as a good selection that changes regularly, including a stout from Papworth brewery, alongside tied and independent beers, ciders and soft drinks. Staff are called friendly, knowledgeable and kind, and one bartender made a cup of tea with lemon for a customer who asked. Several mention the old real ale signs, the proper old school feel and the board games, though one warns that pieces may be missing. A few note the pub is a bit tricky to find on residential streets, and one says there is no food. One reviewer was told off by the barman for using a phone speaker for about a minute and called the exchange rude and inappropriate. Reviewers who enjoyed scrabble with a friend describe a relaxed evening over a drink.

“Sweet staff, friendly, Sara especially. She's really fun to chat with. Other staff, and I believe the owner are also really really nice. The place also has board games that you can play at your leisure. Me and my friend play scrabble and have a great time.”

“A very traditional pub with a good variety of tied and independent beers plus bottled continental. A great find just off a city centre park. Very worth a visit if you like your beer.”

“Standout of this pub is a wide and varied selection of Belgian beers, many of which are not found in other pubs in town. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful with drink choices and there are handy tasting descriptions for each of the Belgian beers they stock. Also a good selection of standard soft drinks, draught beers and ciders, so if Belgian beers are not to your liking that's no reason not to visit this nice pub for a drink.”

“04/03/2024 - 20:00 pm. I have traveled all around Europe and this is the first time this has happened to me. I was having a really good time with a friend of mine when the really rude barman told us off because we used our mobile phone speaker for literally one minute. That was totally inappropriate! Was that really a problem? I have been to this pub many times, but I'm never going back. My suggestion is to hire staff that has good communication skills, respects the customers and don't insult them. We were using our native language, Greek, when the incident happened and I suspect that the behavior of the staff meets the definition of racism.”
