Customer Review Summary
Breakfast draws the most praise, led by a full English that reviewers value for its quality and quantity at the price, and one notes it is gluten free. A French omelette and French toast with apple and red berries also earn thumbs up. Evening diners single out the steak tarte, beef bourgogne, lamb shank and French onion soup, and describe a warm welcome, friendly staff and a harbour setting looking out to sea. One reviewer advises booking in advance because tables get booked up. Two reviewers were disappointed at dinner. One describes a steak that arrived well done instead of rare, replacement prawns that came out uncooked, and pork loin with a seam of gristle and spinach pieces as hard as a cocktail stick, though the mustard mash was delicious. The other found the lamb dry, the vegetables rubbery and the peppercorn sauce too salty to eat, and felt the dark, moody walls were out of place for a family harbour. After the steak and pork problems, the table was offered complimentary drinks and a discount, while a birthday diner was greeted with a free glass of fizz.

“Lucky to get a table for dinner and not disappointed. What a treat. Served by a great team. Food is excellent and decent portions. Don't be put off by the prices...it's well worth it 😎”

“Unfortunately, the food wasn’t great. The vegetables were rubbery, and the lamb was quite dry and poorly seasoned. The peppercorn sauce was so overwhelmingly salty that I couldn’t eat it. It was also uncomfortably hot inside. I wasn’t particularly keen on the atmosphere or décor either. The dark, moody walls and intimate, couples-style vibe felt a little strange and out of place for a restaurant in such a family-oriented harbour location.”

“Having read all the favourable and sometimes glowing reviews with regard to this restaurant , along with multiple verbal compliments , yes , even our taxi driver said we were in for a treat , what could go awry? On arrival , the greeting , tick , decor , tick , ambience, nice , even the cutlery was I believe silver . The waitress was quick with water and drinks and attentive to one of our party who is celiac , we ordered and anticipated. The salmon en croute , fine , the duck , likewise , the steak was ordered rare with prawns to accompany , however it was easily “well done” , the prawns missing , the waitress , despite being told the missing prawns didn’t matter , to rectify the problem went ahead , the haste resulting in them not being cooked and therefore , one nibble was enough . My pork loin looked fine , apart from the rather watery mushroom sauce , the second forkful , (and I know my teeth are 81years old) , was non chewable , for the price charged one does not expect a seam of gristle running through pork loin and some of the “wilted spinach” had pieces as hard as a cocktail stick . I must say , the star of the show was the bed of mustard mash , which was delicious . In the immortal words of “Meatloaf” , two out of three ain’t bad , two out of four is unacceptable . To their credit , complimentary drinks were offered and a compensatory discount was applied , however we will not be in a tearing hurry to repeat the experience . Ambience is all very fine but what ends up on the plate is what really matters . Be it ever so humble , as an Army cook, I served officers the likes of Bowes Lyon , Dashwood and Parker-Bowles in both mess and field , said pork loin wouldn’t have made it into the pan let alone onto a plate , therefore I believe that I know what I am talking about .”
