About The Canteen
The Canteen is a vegetarian restaurant in Hamilton House on Stokes Croft in Bristol, with live music every night of the week, from jam nights and dance nights to local and touring bands. Everything on the menu is either vegetarian or vegan, and the dishes change regularly. Small plates sit alongside a mushroom burger, smashed potatoes and a nut roast with trimmings. The kitchen and bar work with Bristol and local suppliers, including for coffee and cakes. The bar serves cocktails and local beers. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
The roast dinner draws the strongest praise, with reviewers describing the nut roast and trimmings as fresh, balanced and well flavoured, and one calling it the best roast in the city. Close behind are the burgers, with one reviewer singling out the mushroom one as not a portobello, along with smashed potatoes, a sharing board and heritage tomatoes. Several describe delicious food arriving quickly from friendly staff, and a few praise the local beers. Live music is a recurring part of visits, from gigs and a Monday jam session to a bossa nova band that had one group dancing. The caveats are small. One reviewer finds the live music overly amplified for the space, and another wanted more vegan cake and dessert options and slightly more attention to detail. One out-of-town visitor returned on two more nights to catch different bands in the outdoor space.

“Another one of my favourite venues, or simply places to drink in Bristol. I've been there alone, with friends, strangers, dates and I've always had a good time”

“Loved discovering Canteen on our visit to Bristol from Manchester. Had 2 amazing vegetarian meals there, which were delicious. A very friendly cool venue. Loved the Brazilian Bossa Nova band and dancing on our first night, and returned and caught 2 different bands the following nights. Great outdoor space too. 100% recommend if in Montpelier.”

“Nice spot on Stokes Croft, really good selection of local beers and drinks combined with a good selection of food in the kitchen. It appears the menu is Vegan only, so that may sway you one way or another.”
