About Chris and Jo's Kitchen
Chris and Jo's Kitchen is a British restaurant in Bristol at 122 St Michael's Hill, run by a couple, Chris and Jo. One of them works in the kitchen and the other looks after front of house, so the people who cook and the people who serve are the owners themselves. Dishes are made fresh to order from daily deliveries by local suppliers, and the menu changes regularly to use West Country produce. A fish stew is served as a starter. Pork belly appears as a main and as a sandwich filling. The roast pork comes with crackling, and ox cheek croquettes are offered as a side with the roast. Rice pudding is among the desserts.

Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast is what reviewers raise first, with several calling it among the best they have had. They praise the pink beef, the succulent pork with generous crackling, and sides that include ox cheek croquettes. Close behind is the roasted pork belly, described as crispy outside and tender within, both in a lunch sandwich and as a dinner main. Fish stew, risotto and mussels starters and trout and cod mains also draw praise, and desserts, especially the rice pudding, are singled out. Portions are called generous and the food reasonably priced. The main complaint comes from one diner who found the front of house unwelcoming despite an exceptional roast. They said everything felt like too much effort and that they were brushed away when they asked to thank the chef, and they suggest going as a group to create its own atmosphere. Other reviewers describe the service as attentive and the hosts as lovely, and one mentions the generous leftover bread and butter being packaged up for them to take home.

“Superb! One of the absolute best Sunday Roasts I have ever had. Incredible quality/price/quantity ratio. Perfectly cooked and seasoned throughout. 5* ingredients & attention to detail. Ox Cheek Croquettes as a side, included along with MANY others!! Very generous portions. Dessert was also amazing. Lovely hosts whose passion for food and excellent service shines through everything here. Hidden gem of a place that won't stay hidden for long... go now before it's impossible to book a table!!!”

“The Sunday roast was absolutely exceptional…honestly one of the best we have ever had, anywhere! The beef was perfectly pink, the vegetables so delicious and every element had its own flavour. Really unbelievably good. The honest truth though is that I’m not sure if we would come back, despite that, as the overall atmosphere was strange and not welcoming. I don’t know if Jo (who is the front of house part of the couple) was particularly stressed today, but reading other reviews it seems that we’re not alone in thinking that she exudes less than a welcoming attitude. I think it would have been impossible to force a smile out of her, which is sad, as her whole demeanour makes you feel uncomfortable. We eat regularly in an equally sized restaurant in Falmouth, where the atmosphere is absolutely charming, with smiling staff who make you feel welcome and comfortable. You can provide efficient, professional service without being borderline rude. Everything felt as though it was too much effort. We don’t go out to eat simply for the food, however brilliant and delicious it is. I would walk miles to have this Sunday lunch again, if the whole experience had matched the excellence of the ingredients and cooking. So massive congratulations to the chef, whom I was not allowed to thank personally, as front of house basically brushed me away saying “oh, he’s down the other end if the kitchen”. Such a shame. If you go, go as a group , so you can create your own atmosphere!”

“It’s my first time to be here, and I tried fish stew as starter and roasted pork belly as main course, both amazing!!! I wanna come again and try different courses.”

“We are a proudly independent restaurant nestled on the top of St. Michaels Hill. All of our dishes are made fresh and to order with daily deliveries from great, local suppliers. Our menu changes on a regular basis to take advantage of the great produce the West Country has to offer.”
