Quick info
About Haveli The Yard
Haveli The Yard is a family-run Pakistani, Indian and Afghani restaurant at 10 Upper Maudlin St in Bristol, open daily. The kitchen is fully halal, and no alcohol is served on the premises, so the bar pours mocktails instead. The menu includes karahi dishes, among them chicken karahi and paneer karahi, along with the Mixed Tawa, which the staff often suggest to diners who want variety in one order. Garlic naan is one of the breads on offer to go with the curries. Groups can order the Royal Buffet, which is built around a whole lamb and is set up for large parties.

Customer Review Summary
The Mixed Tawa is the dish reviewers return to most, praised as delicious with lots of variety, and one regular says it has never let them down. Close behind, a whole lamb from a group buffet is described as tender, moist and not too heavily spiced. Diners also single out the charsi chicken karahi, paneer karahi, pani puri and veg samosas, plus naan one calls wonderful. Servers are called friendly and kind, and one group says the owner personally served their karahi. One couple mention the mocktail bar, as no alcohol is served. The main criticism comes from a takeaway order: the chicken tikka starter was dry and tasteless, the lamb shank dry and overcooked, and the oily main spilled into its plastic bag. One reviewer says the place is always packed and suggests booking in advance. Another says their server recommended the Mixed Tawa, and it was the perfect choice.

“We got a table on First Table randomly and were blown away! We had pani puri to start and veg samosas - both were excellent. We split 2 veg curries for our mains and those were also delicious. The service was super quick and the waiters were very kind. Would highly recommend! With First Table, a meal for 2 (we are both stuffed) was only £33!!!”

“The food in Haveli the Yard is spectacular. We were visiting from Dubai and looking for some great South Asian food. Freshly prepared according to the customer’s taste with great accompaniments. Naan bread was really wonderful. We enjoyed the food so much on the first visit that we came back again today. Really enjoyed the charsi chicken karahi !! Yum. Thank you !”

“We absolutely loved the food here and would return to Bristol just to eat here again. We were served by Kundan who did a great job looking after us. He recommended the Mixed Tawa which was simply delicious and had lots of variety. It was the perfect choice and we enjoyed everything on the Tawa. Certainly one of the best in terms of quality and value for money. Highly recommend.”

“•We came from London to visit Bristol, and this was our first time having dinner at Haveli The Yard. It was an amazing experience! We tried the pani puri, onion bhaji, paneer karahi, and garlic naan, and every dish was delicious, fresh, and full of flavour. •The staff were very friendly and welcoming. A special thanks to KUNDAN who served us with a smile and made sure everything was perfect throughout our meal. His excellent service made our experience even more enjoyable. • We highly recommend Haveli The Yard to anyone visiting Bristol. We will definitely visit again when we're back in Bristol! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”

“I organised 2 different meals for large groups, the first for 14 people and the second for 21. For the first we ordered the mix Tawas, starters for the second we had the whole lamb as part of the Royal Buffet. On both occasions the food was spot on. It’s authentic Pakistani food with a taste of home and flavours were great and portions generous and enough variety to satisfy mosts tastes. The star of the show was by far the whole lamb which was tender, moist and not too heavily spiced. The owner Amir was attentive, and came to our table with a chicken and lamb karahi we ordered and personally served us. Kumdan was also very accommodating and ensured we were looked after. Many modern Pakistani/Indian restaurants are far removed from their culinary roots but not Haveli, its focus on traditional has paid off and I look forward to revisiting again soon.”
