About Mugshot Restaurants Bristol
On St Nicholas St in Bristol, Mugshot Restaurants Bristol is a British steakhouse decorated in a 1920s theme with wood panelling throughout. Steaks arrive seared only, with a hot stone brought to the table so diners finish the cooking themselves to their preferred temperature, choosing from flavoured butters such as cowboy and garlic and sauces including beef dripping, peppercorn, and wild mushroom. The porterhouse and caveman cuts are offered as shareable steaks for two, alongside sides like parmesan chips, mac n cheese, and bone marrow mash. Waiting staff talk diners through the stone and butter selection at the table, and the kitchen accommodates gluten-free and keto or carnivore requests. The menu is halal. Reservations are required. Seafood, wine, and cocktails round out the offering at 18 St Nicholas St.

Customer Review Summary
Diners repeatedly single out the hot stone steak experience, where seared meat arrives with flavoured butters (cowboy, garlic) and sauces like beef dripping and peppercorn for cooking tableside, calling it theatrical and memorable across dishes like the caveman steak and porterhouse. Close behind, starters and sides draw praise, especially camembert baked in a bread roll and the pork belly bites. Servers are described repeatedly as accommodating, swapping dishes without fuss for dietary needs and walking guests through gluten-free and keto options. One reviewer bucked the trend, finding the steak underseasoned and the sauces flavourless, and disliked the extra-tender texture and the self-cooking process, though even they praised the pork belly starter and called service perfect. Several call the meal pricey but worth it, and multiple diners say they plan to return.

“VERY pricey, but worth it for the quality of meat and the experience. My wife and I went for the caveman steak to share - it was delicious! The butters were fine, but the sauces (beef dripping, and peppercorn) were amazing. It was fun cooking the steak on the hot stone - a great theatrical experience. Our server (Lily) was also great - she was a fellow coeliac like my wife, and put her at ease and walked through all the dietary restrictions. She also gave my wife other local recommendations for gluten free. Overall, a fabulous experience and well worth trying.”

“Really enjoyed our meal at Mugshot Bristol. The steak was excellent, cooked exactly how we liked it using the hot stone, and the quality of the meat was fantastic. The chips, mushrooms and asparagus were all delicious, and the selection of sauces was a great addition. Generous portions, great atmosphere, and a fun dining experience. We’ll definitely be back!”

“The steak here was out of this world good. Cooking it yourself on hot stones, with flavoured butters is a great interactive experience and allows you to cook to your preferred temperature. I'll warn anyone ordering the broccoli that this comes with lots of chilli (not on the menu) my dining partner can't have chilli but the exceptional waiting staff were happy to swap this for us without any fuss. Great cocktails and wine too!”

The staff was more than accommodating, the food was delicious with the different butters and sauces to change the taste with every bite. A super night and everyone enjoyed it. Thank you :)”
