About Cafe Cuba Caribbean Food Bristol

Cuban cooking anchors the menu at Cafe Cuba Caribbean Food Bristol, a Cuban restaurant on Stokes Croft. Ropa vieja comes as a recurring order, served with rice, and fried plantain, tostones and cassava fries turn up alongside the mains. Mojitos run through the drinks side, and rum shots arrive with or after the meal, so a visit tends to finish at the table rather than end with the plates. The kitchen also lists calamares fritos, tamal de maiz and flan de tres leche. Tables outside give the option of eating in the open air, while a step-free entrance keeps the room reachable for visitors with mobility needs. Reservations are recommended. The restaurant serves Tuesday through Sunday and closes on Mondays, with music playing in the room during service.

Customer Review Summary

Mojitos draw the most repeated praise, described as excellent, unreal and not too sweet, and a couple of reviewers expressly tell others not to miss them. Close behind is the ropa vieja, singled out by several, one noting rice that arrived fluffy and tasty. Beyond that, diners name fried tostones with garlic, cassava fries, plantain, a Sandwich del Pollo called the tastiest chicken sandwich one had eaten, tender Calamares Fritos, a Tamal de Maiz starter and a Flan de Tres Leche dessert, with a caipirinha and the Cafe Cubano also getting a mention. Several remark that the frontage looks like a greasy spoon and that the room is not a dressy place, then add that the cooking, which they describe as fresh and made from scratch, is nothing like the exterior suggests. Service is repeatedly called friendly, one group was seated and fed just before closing, and more than one describes rounds of rum shots arriving free at the end of the meal.

“If I were to ever live in Bristol, finding Cafe Cuba was the best find in the Bristol! It felt like a home away from home. David the owner greeted us and we immediately connected and spoke Spanish. We ordered ropa vieja which was SO DELICIOUS!!!! Also ordered the fried tostones with garlic and mannn we were on the moon! OH and let’s not forget the MOJITO he gifted us AND these spiced rum shots for us to know what a real mojitos should taste like. I was blown away because Miami could neverrr!”
