Customer Review Summary
Coffee is the most repeated draw, with several diners calling it fantastic and pairing it with friendly, helpful staff. Close behind is the English breakfast, where one reviewer swapped the tea for coffee and got extra black pudding on the side, and another ranked it among the best they had had. The mac n cheese made with Hafod cheddar and the Welsh rarebit also earn individual praise. The recurring complaint is the hot kitchen food. Several groups, including a booked table of six, describe waits of over an hour, cold or lukewarm mains, and a starter arriving after the main. Cottage pie came out greasy and cold in the middle, and a beef stroganoff was cold with undercooked rice. One reviewer suggests cutting the menu back so fewer dishes get better attention. Another left without ordering after waiting outside and never being greeted. The diner with the cold cottage pie asked for a refund, and the manager apologised.

“Myself and a friend went for breakfast last weekend, it was beautiful inside, great atmosphere, great selection of deli meats/cheeses/chutneys, and the breakfast was one of the beat ive ever had! The staff were lovely and the coffee was fantastic too! Definitely recommend East St Deli to anybody 😊”

“6 of us arrived on a booking so you think they'd be half-prepared. They didn't have my first choice so went with something else. My friends had ordered starters/drinks but they took a lifetime to come out. Our main meals took forever to come out and when they did, the food was cold/lukewarm at best. I also noticed how the owner/chef (not sure) bald older guy was talking to his young staff like trash which is unacceptable to do in front of customers. Safe to say you've lost 6 people ever spending money in your business again.”

“Would not suggest if you want a hot meal. Waited over an hour and most of the dishes came out only slightly warm once they did and two of them got sent back. My starter came out after I had been given my main, which is just a joke. I think it would have been a better idea to have just ordered a sandwich. I think they need to reduce their menu to allow them to improve the quality of just a few items, rather then over stretching themselves.”

“So I booked here for a birthday meal. Website looks fantastic! But when we got there we seated ourselves and found food all over the floor under our feet and food left on the table, I cleaned it up with a napkin. We went up and ordered, the young lad serving took our orders and we sat down. It took just over an hour for our food to be served. My husband's beef stroganoff was cold and the rice wasn't cooked properly! He left and ate somewhere else. 3 of us ordered cottage pie, which came out greasy and badly presented (no salad like in the online photos) My pie was freezing cold in the middle and the others were luke warm, so I asked for it to go back and be microwaved, I had to be somewhere so didn't have time for something new to be cooked. I then only ate the mash on top as I didn't want food poisoning. When I asked for my refund the manager came over and said he was sorry and it was unacceptable to the 2 servers (he was the one who cooked it) I feel they should change the menu, the sandwiches looked lovely but the hot food has obviously been premade and frozen. It would have been ok if it was cooked from fresh.”
