Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the small plates, which come in generous portions, with the grilled squid and torched mackerel named most. Close behind are the grilled scallops in lime chilli oil, the goat's cheese with honey, the skate wing, and a Jerusalem artichoke dish with chicory and hazelnut emulsion. Panna cotta and a tiramisu espresso martini come up for dessert, and reviewers call the cocktails ingenious and note plenty of wine by the glass. Servers are described as friendly and attentive. Price is the recurring trade-off, with two reviewers saying a shared-plates dinner with one glass of wine each would have run high without the first table deal. The sharpest criticism comes from one diner who found the tomato salad plain, tasted onion in the peach and chicory salad, and sent a dish back. That diner also found the inside menu differed from the one outside because there was no burrata, though the waitress was apologetic and offered to bring something else.

“A thoroughly disappointing experience at Chandos. The food was shockingly uninspired and showed very little creativity, care or culinary skill. The tomato salad was nothing more than basic tomatoes, not even finished with a drizzle of olive oil. The chicory and peach salad was equally disappointing. The peaches had clearly been cut with a knife that had previously been used for onions, leaving an unmistakable onion flavour throughout the dish. These are very basic details that should never be overlooked in a restaurant of this kind. I also had to send a dish back. To be fair, the waitress was extremely pleasant, helpful and apologetic, and offered to bring me something else, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, this did little to redeem what was already a very disappointing meal. What was particularly frustrating was seeing one menu advertised outside, only to discover that the menu inside was different. When I asked why, I was simply told that they didn’t have the burrata or the necessary ingredients that day. If you cannot serve what you are advertising, perhaps do not advertise it in the first place. Chandos restaurant really needs to take a hard look at what it is offering — from the quality and preparation of the ingredients to the presentation and attention to detail. At present, there seems to be a significant gap between what the restaurant appears to aspire to and what actually arrives on the plate. Sadly, this was not a case of one disappointing dish; it was a disappointing lack of standards throughout. I certainly would not return. I would, however, like to stress that the waitress was very helpful and apologetic throughout. I should also make clear that the Chandos delicatessen next door is a completely separate experience and, in my view, is excellent. This review is specifically about the restaurant.”

“First visit of many more to come. Had the superb mackerel, friend had the steak with perfect potatoes. Olives and bread were delicious accompanied by a very smooth bottle of Prosecco. Skipped pud this time as wonderfully full, ordering pud’s to start in next visit :)”

“Having stumbled upon Chandos on Saturday, we decided to come back on Sunday for dinner. With the weather being warm we sat outside both nights, which was a lot of fun - people watching. Sunday, our meal was sublime. Chose an assortment of sharing plates. The standouts were the grilled scallops in a lime chilli oil; the goats cheese with honey. We were so blown away by the flavours, that we forgot to take photos. Finished with desserts and espresso. The panna cotta was gorgeous. The servers were friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit.”

“Sat out front, had the torched mackerel and it was busy day with the balloon festival. Everything was amazing, service was great and the mackerel was cooked beautifully. Would recommend!”

“Went to Chandos for the first time this evening as a birthday treat with some friends. What an amazing meal. All the dishes were made with clearly the best ingredients possible and lots of time & effort had gone into developing them. Cocktails were ingenious and wine list spectacular… lots of options by the glass and carafe. Highlights were the fresh oysters as well as the skate wing. And don’t miss the tiramisu espresso martini! Atmosphere and design is perfect. Looking forward to coming back in the daytime to sit in the sun on the outside tables and having a snack & glass of chilled wine. Highly recommend!”
