About The Fowler's Farm
On Cressing Rd in Braintree, The Fowler's Farm is a pub with more than 600 years of local history behind it, including a spell as a refuge during wartime bombing raids. The menu runs to 20 dishes, among them Fish and Chips and Sea Bass, and the Sunday roast comes with the vegetables served separately, plus pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese. Gardens sit alongside the building. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own, and walk-ins are taken without a reservation. Dog owners can bring their dogs along. The pub is part of the Vintage Inn chain, which runs an app with deals.

Customer Review Summary
The Sunday roast draws the most praise. One diner found the meat well cooked and the vegetables plentiful and served separate, and another returned specifically for the roast on a busy lunchtime. Pigs in blankets and cauliflower cheese get specific mentions, and another reviewer singled out the charcuterie pizza and calamari nuggets starter as worth the price. Several describe friendly, welcoming staff who coped with busy sessions, including a large Saturday table where every dish was tasty and well presented. The sharpest complaints concern delivery and kitchen pace. Two reviewers who ordered roasts through Deliveroo described dry beef, raw carrots, burnt gravy, burnt roast potatoes and barely cooked meat, and one called the drinks and delivered meal overpriced. One dining group reported waiting far too long for food while later arrivals were served first, and was told the kitchen is short staffed. Their shandies also arrived as straight lagers, and the manager offered to cover the drinks and starter.

“We visited Fowlers Farm in Braintree for lunch. Our host was Jay, he was very polite and cheerful. Very friendly and warm atmosphere, it was busy but not noisy. The food was delicious. 10/10. Would I go there again, yes, definitely. Fantastic offers with the Vintage inn app!”

“We walked in without a reservation slightly late and the lovely Hannah was so nice and managed to find us a table for two. Francis was amazingly helpful, he made sure we were comfortably seated and gave us some great recommendations and on when to order by. He was super friendly and welcoming, which really added to the lovely atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious, and the portions were incredibly generous. Everything was full of flavour and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re travelling around the Braintree area. Great food, fantastic service, and such a welcoming atmosphere! We’ll definitely be back. 😊”

“I have had a Deliveroo from this restaurant and I’m not happy with the food. Vegetables were hard, my meat was barely cooked. My roast potatoes were burnt. Just overall not good enough”

“Booked a table for 8 people on Saturday evening and really wasn’t sure what to expect. They were very busy but we were warmly welcomed & shown to our nicely set table. Our individual orders were very mixed but each dish was tasty & well presented. No negative feedback from us & we are definitely going to return soon.”

“Dreadful experience, our group never got any food apart from one who managed to get his starter which took over an hour to be delivered, people around us who came in well after us were all served before us, we had no choice but to complain to the manager, he told us that they are always under staffed especially in the kitchen, he apologised and said he would do something for us, well he did because when one of our party eventually got their starter he came back over and although I couldn’t hear properly I did hear the “if you’re not happy then please leave and I will take care of the drinks and the starter” we had to wait approximately half an hour for the drinks we got, two of them were supposed to be small shandies but were straight lagers and mine was supposed to be a lager but it was disgustingly bad, just tasted awful and ended up leaving it, the staff in general were certainly not the politest although not rude either just blunt and to the point, we certainly wouldn’t want a Christmas dinner there if that’s how they carry on, a few weeks ago I went to the sister pub the Angel in Broomfield and the food was either well under cooked (might as well have been raw) or the fish that I had was completely soggy (probably cooked from frozen to be like that). Never again will we ever set foot inside a vintage inn, really bad experience never to be repeated, there’s no way we could ever recommend these pubs to anyone, our day was totally saved by going to the Hub in Felsted totally looked after us and the food was amazing and the staff went out of their way to look after us, just a really bad experience for us, I’m sure others have had better experiences but for it just never happened.”
