About Prince Louis
Prince Louis is a pub in Braintree, in the village of Great Notley, overlooking Notley Green from Notley Grn. It has run as a Mac's pub since 2018 and takes its name from Prince Louis. The kitchen cooks fresh rotisserie chicken, and soft-serve ice cream sundaes cover dessert. A Sunday roast is also served. The interior is large, with open fires, vintage industrial decor and air conditioning. Dogs are welcome, which suits walkers and owners who want to bring their pet along. The bar also puts major football games and England matches on screen.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly staff are the most repeated praise here, with reviewers describing welcoming, prompt service from servers and the wider team, including at a 15-person birthday meal. Food is the second draw, led by the Sunday roast with its perfect potatoes and generous portions. Reviewers also name a beetroot Wellington, a delicious dessert and a takeaway roast dinner. The large, airy, vintage industrial interior and the beer garden get consistent mention too. Food also draws the main complaints. One regular who has eaten there around seven times calls the meals average to disappointing and reheated, while others report a tasteless prawn cocktail, starter wings only just cooked and a stringy sirloin steak. A vegetarian found just two hot options, one of them unavailable. One reviewer wants more staff behind the bar, and a table beside the kitchen meant a constantly banging door. A few still see it as a good place for a beer in the sun or to watch England and other major football games.

“We consistently have great service and delicious food at The Prince Louis. Clare and her team, particularly Marianne are wonderful. Also the takeaway service is excellent if you're looking to enjoy a roast dinner at home.”

“The starter wings were just about cooked, I’ll not order again. The sirloin stake had more string than the London philharmonic, I’d happy pay £5 more to have a decent stake). I did laugh when I seen the google listing of gasto pub ! Having said this, it’s a good pub for a beer in the sun.”

“I have visited this establishment on a number of occasions and have always been impressed with it. It is relatively easu to find and adequate parking available. There is a good choice on the menus and service during peak times good. The only criticism I have is they could have more staff behind the bar but apart from that I would say if you have not visited yet try it.”

“Great pub, really nice outside area and indoors was lovely and airy and had really good air conditioning running which made it nice and comfortable in this hot July weather we are having👍 The food was absolutely top notch and really tasty, a good choice and piping hot when served up, a great choice of drinks also. Lizzie, our waitress was lovely and really pleasant to speak with. All in all a great pub and all four of us really enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back again for more 👏🏻👏🏻👍”

“Chicken & Grill No. 13, named after William and Kate’s youngest, The Prince Louis is tucked away in the peaceful village of Great Notley, overlooking Notley Green. A Mac’s pub since 2018, this large contemporary village pub boasts open fires, a welcoming bar, and a spacious and comfortable dining experience. There’s something for everyone in this pub. Food and drink specialities include fresh rotisserie chicken, soft-serve hand made ice cream sundaes, locally crafted beers, cocktails and our favourite wines. Log fires add to the winter ambiance and when the sun is shining, there’s no better spot. Surrounded by open green land, it’s the perfect stop off for the whole family to enjoy the best of the great British summer.”
