Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the fish pie, called one of the best they've had, with repeat visitors saying it never disappoints. Close behind are the pies more broadly: the Moo & Blue, the steak, ale, cheese and chilli pie, the rag pudding and the lamb shepherd's pie, along with a burger, big wings and a pizza one diner rated the best they'd had in this country. Many describe the food as fresh, good value and generously portioned, and the staff as friendly and welcoming. Beer is called excellent and well looked after, and the dining areas and spacious bar draw comment. Slow service is the recurring complaint. Some waited a long while for food or drinks, and one found the atmosphere lacking at a Saturday lunchtime with noisy regulars near the bar. Other misses were specific: the jackfruit pie was unavailable, leaving only cheese and onion as the other vegetarian pie, one fisherman's pie was average with mostly white fish and the odd prawn, and a brownie came with chocolate ice cream because the vanilla had run out. One lukewarm coffee was replaced with a fine second cup.

“5/5 for food, service and great place. The food is fresh, pippin hot and delicious, just like made at home. The staff are so joyful and courteous, always with a smile. Our first visit for food. Recommended 100% the rag pudding and the lamb shepherds pie. We will return again for sure.”

“Always walked by and finally decided to try it out. Food was good, fresh and not a single complaint. For the wings on the nibbles, the size was impressive and filling for a small bite. The setting was cosy, great selection to choose for drink and food. Will definitely be coming again.”

“The easiest 5 stars I've ever given. 8 lads, okay old blokes, out for a meal before snooker season starts. Beer 5 star Food 5 star, amazing for the price. Service 5 star, could not be faulted. Really looking forward to going back. Cheers Mick”

“It was quite quiet when we went ( 13.00 ) The food was excellent with good sized portions. Service was fast and attentive The beer was excellent and well looked after. There are areas for everyone. Large and smallish dining areas and the bar area. It was a nice experience, I will return.”

“We only popped in for a quick drink but as I'd skipped lunch i though id treat myself to a dessert. I choose the warm chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. Unfortunately there was no vanilla ice cream so they gave me chocolate instead. It was ok, but nothing special, I've tasted better and worse. The staff were very friendly but service was a tad slow, I also had to send my coffee back as it was lukewarm, I was told that they'd had their coffee machine mended that morning so it mustn't have warmed up fully! The second cup was fine. The atmosphere was a little lacking with some noisy regulars in the front part near the bar and a couple of families in the back rooms eating. I'm sure on a Friday and Saturday night its be much better. We called in on a Saturday lunchtime.”
