About Hope & Anchor Inn
Hope & Anchor Inn is a pub at 747 Chorley Old Rd in Bolton, laid out as a run of small, separate rooms with original Victorian-style features. The bar pours real cask ales, including Bank Top and Wainwright, and sandwiches are available for anyone wanting a bite alongside a pint. One room holds a dart board and another has a pool table, so there are games to play between rounds. A pub quiz is held, and dogs are welcome. The pub sits across the street from The Doffcocker, a larger pub.

Customer Review Summary
Real ale draws the most praise here, with reviewers pointing to award winning cask ales and naming Bank Top and Wainwright's among a good selection of drinks. Several describe friendly bar staff and a warm welcome from the new landlady. The Victorian style rooms, with original features and snug corners, remind one regular of the small-roomed pubs they grew up in. Close behind, reviewers mention sandwiches, fair prices and talkative locals. They also note a dart board in one room, a pool table in another and an outdoor seating area. The criticisms are narrower. One reviewer says noisy children running around since a nearby pub closed have turned a former favourite into the worst pub in Bolton, and another calls the parking a shame. One visitor singles out the host of the pub quiz as the highlight of their night.

“Went in here for a quiet pint last week. The staff are lovely, but it was genuinely scary. There's a bad chemical problem openly being used in the toilets, as can be seen by the photos and because of this, there's a definite sense of aggression.”

“Love this pub. It's what I grew up with, small rooms, sandwiches and friendly talkative folks. And great ale.”
