About The Ale House
The Ale House is a pub in Bolton at 36 Church St, serving real ales from Bank Top brewery, with at least eight on the bar and usually a couple of guest ales alongside. The Bank Top Dark Mild and the Pint of Palomino are among the beers on offer. The pub has no TVs, no juke box and no loud background music, so conversation takes centre stage. It serves no food, but customers can bring in sandwiches from the butty shop next door and eat them with their pint. Dogs are welcome, so regulars can bring theirs along.

Customer Review Summary
Regulars and visitors alike come for the real ales from Bank Top brewery, with at least eight on and usually a couple of guest ales alongside. Reviewers single out the Bank Top Dark Mild as a favourite, while others call a pint of Flat Cap, Port o Call or Palomino Rising excellent. Close behind is the staff, described repeatedly as friendly, pleasant and welcoming, and the focus on conversation, with no TVs, no juke box and no loud background music. Several mention great value, and one took a gift box of Bank Top ale home for a friend. One reviewer cautions that the large selection means the odd iffy pint can turn up. Food is not served, though customers have no objection from the pub when they bring in sandwiches from the butty shop next door.

“A true local pub with friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. No food is served nor juke box music - the intention is to focus on conversation and good cheer. I loved the Bank Top Dark Mild - my favourite. A real beer! I look forward to visiting here again soon.”

“Nice pub with cracking real ales! The bar person was very friendly and welcoming. Nice layout inside. Toilets clean. I sat outside in the small outdoor area because I’d just been for a walk. I had a pint of Port o call which was excellent. And a pint of Palomino rising which was just as good. I’d highly recommend trying this place if you like a good tasting pint.”
