Customer Review Summary
Friendly, welcoming staff come up most, including a server who offered a table on a busy Mother's Day. The cheese onion pie and a black pudding fritter earn praise, plus cask ales. Two reviewers were let down: one cites mushrooms that looked tinned, scampi from a tin and a hard poached egg, another describes starters dried under a heat lamp after a long wait.

“We visited on a quiet Monday lunchtime looking forward to a good meal. We waited over 45 minutes for our starter and in the end had to ask. The starters and main came in quick succession soon after, however, it was clear they had been sat under a hot lamp for some time and it was dried and shrivelled. We left very disappointed, the staff didn’t ask how we found our food, wonder why? Extremely underwhelming”

“We live not to far away, but the last time we ate here it wasn't anything special, changed hands not sure when but deceided to try again, I fancied the battered black pudding with a poached egg, came with grease on the plate and the poached egg was hard boiled, my wife fancied the mushrooms in a cheese sauce, that arrived mushrooms looked like they came from a tin, really dark and chewy. Definately not fresh. Then I had scampi and chips as expected, but scampi came in a tin not sure how that helped with the presentation. I don't like to be to negative, but this is basic food you are preparing and serving so needs to be of a better standard.”

“Historic pub in a charming village location. Stopped off for some food, with a great menu selection with excellent customer service. Small plate selection is perfect for those quick stop offs, the black pudding fritter was delicious. Followed by the cheesecake and a great cup of coffee, extremely satisfied.”

“Was just driving past and thought we would pop in didn't think we would get a table as it's mother's day. But a lovely lady called Katie asked if we would like one in case we wanted food. So glad she did as the food was unbelievable all the staff was so friendly and kind. The place it's self was so cozy and relaxing. Katie couldn't of done more for us she was so welcoming. We can't wait to come back and even stay over too thank you.”

“The Black Dog is a picturesque, country food pub in the Lancashire village of Belmont. Opening its doors as a public house in 1825, the original building was first used as a village courthouse in the 1700s and later as a farmhouse. Recommended in the Good Pub Guide, the Black Dog offers a great range of pub food alongside well-kept beers and cask ales. Like any good country pub, there are a number of cosy snugs, raised areas, coal fires and traditional features. At the back of the pub there’s a sun-trap beer garden and part-covered courtyard. Popular with cyclists, dog walkers and hikers, the Black Dog has three en-suite rooms for comfortable overnight stays with superb access to the local countryside.”
