Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the fish and chips, which one reviewer calls elevated to a gourmet standard and another recommends alongside the chicken with sticky rice. Close behind are the tenderstem broccoli and coated chips as sides, the lamb rump, prawn pasta and a fish cake described as absolutely delicious, with the crab and avocado tian noted for its presentation. Truffles with a hard crisp shell and caramel inside also earn praise. Reviewers describe the decor as colourful, art-deco and full of birds and nature, and most call the service friendly and attentive. The complaints are specific. The salt and pepper squid was dry and the scallops small, a poached egg arrived closer to boiled, coffee came with burnt, foamy milk, and drinks were described as more ice than drink and expensive. One reviewer objected to a service charge added to the bill, and others found the room loud or service slower than at other branches. Two birthday diners close on the same detail: the kitchen sent out a complimentary dessert or treat.

“A little loud as we arrived, but that table soon left and instantly it felt calm and enjoyable. Service was friendly, decor was colourful and the food was beautiful. I wasn't sure on portion size, so added a couple of sides for our table of three to share. Not sure we needed them, but still, we ate them and they were lovely too. The tenderstem brocoli was beautifully cooked and salted to perfection. The coated chips were lovely. Between us we had shepherds pie, lamb rump and prawn pasta. All plates were bare and thoroughly enjoyed. We were too full for dessert but opted for truffles to share, which was a fantastic choice. Just a bit of sweet to finish. Hard crisp shell with lovely caramel inside.”

“This is a slick and well organised restaurant from the host upon arrival to the attentive service from the waiters and bar staff. Food was excellent and I thought was good value considering the size of the portions and the quality ingredients on them (saffron, etc). Wine selection was also good in terms of quality, if a little pricey, but to be expected. It was a mid week lunchtime and the place was fairly full of business people in groups, some afternoon teas and various couples. Noise levels was quite high as a result so perhaps not best for a romantic liaison but am sure a quieter corner could be found if requested. One star deducted because the bill arrived with an optional (but clearly mandatory unless you have the confidence to say so) service charge of 20% which is a ridiculous level of tip, this is not the USA, employees get minimum wage and whilst I would have tipped big like I always do when service is great, I prefer to tip individual staff and not see the tip go to corporate who then decide who gets what.”

“Came here for my birthday lunch. The service was great, friendly and attentive. However the food was ok, a bit underwhelming. We ordered the Salt & Pepper Squid and Roasted Queen Scallops. The Squid was dry and the scallops quite small. For mains we had the Fillet Steak and Lobster Risotto. They kindly offered a complimentary dessert to celebrate my birthday. Would come back but choose different items.”

“We’re fans of The Ivy and have gone to different ones in different cities. The one in Birmingham is okay, the decor is the same gorgeous birds and nature, but service here appears slower despite there being plenty of staff. When they were actually available to serve tables, they were good. Toilets are gorgeous too but smaller than elsewhere, so perhaps space allocation was challenging at this location. Main seating is split across a ground and mezzanine. Great location on a corner of Temple Row though.”

“Good vibes, food choices for Indians are less but if u r Chicken n fish lover then go for fish n chips. It's a fries fish with French fries. K Chicken with salad is also good with sticky rice. It's expensive. Drinks are more ice than a drink.and expensive too. But a very cool place to take someone out visiting here.”
