About Bedders
Bedders is a fish and chips restaurant on Coventry Road in Birmingham, serving a focused menu built around fried seafood and classic accompaniments. The kitchen centers on battered fish, with the haddock fillet acting as the house anchor and the plaice fillet offering a lighter alternative for regulars. Meals come with chips and a choice of mushy peas or curry sauce, keeping the format straightforward and rooted in the traditional chippy model. Orders are placed at the counter, and food is served on trays for table seating, which suits quick weeknight dinners as well as takeaway. The interior is set up for casual dining rather than formal service, with a layout that moves guests from the counter to a table without delay.

Customer Review Summary
Bedders divides opinion sharply among diners who visit this Coventry Road chippy. Several five star reviewers call it the best fish and chips they have had, praising fresh fish, crispy light batter, well cooked mushy peas, and a £12 meal deal that bundles fish and chips with a sauce, bread and a drink. One loyal customer travels from Walsall and calls the food honest and great tasting. On the other side, multiple one star reviews single out the £15 price as excessive, with one diner calling it a rip off and another saying the same meal costs far less at a local chippy. Complaints about quality also recur, with one reviewer describing soggy, batter with no crispness or flavour, and another reporting hard, small chips and a small fish portion. Service speed generates the sharpest criticism, with one reviewer describing waits of over 40 minutes and another saying the service was the slowest they had experienced. A few note friendlier touches, with one praising helpful staff and another highlighting quick service on a quieter visit.

“Really disappointed with my recent visit to Bedders Fish and Chips. The food was poor quality everything was soggy, the batter had no crispness or flavour, and overall it just tasted bland. It was honestly quite unpleasant to eat. …”

“Slowest service I ever had waited over 40 minutes ridiculous even new customers that had just walked though the door got theres before me while eating in..... So I waited 20 minutes at least that amount just to get served to eat in and then waited another 20 minutes for one battered sausages which not included in my photo as was giving up on it ever arriving. I walked in at 1pm and didn't get out of Bedders until is was closing time 2pm this is not acceptable you need to get faster staff and why does it take 20 minutes to batter 1 sausage is it from frozen for god sake 😡 The member of staff that was serving the meals in had a bad foot and could hardly walk so unprofessional she was too slow at her job and one point dropped chips off another customers plate when he ordered 2 plates of large chips and she didn't even replace them while the customer had his back turned to take hot tea's to his table... I was going to say something at that point but at the time I was shaking my head in disbelief and thought better not say nothing and put it in my review here instead.”
