About Fenous

Fenous is a halal restaurant on Coventry Rd in Birmingham, open daily. The mixed grill platter brings together lamb chops, chicken, kofta, wings, shawarma, and kebabs over seasoned basmati rice, and main courses come with a choice of sides such as rice or pasta. Mocktails are offered alongside the food menu. A semi-open kitchen lets diners watch the chefs at work, and a separate prayer room is available for customers who need it. The step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are on hand for families with young children. Reservations are recommended, since the restaurant gets busy at weekends and on holidays such as Christmas Day and Eid, with queues forming at peak times. Free on-site parking covers around ten to fifteen cars for those driving in.

Customer Review Summary

The mixed grill platter is the clear draw at Fenous, with reviewers repeatedly praising the generous portions of lamb chops, chicken mashwii, kofta and shawarma served over seasoned basmati rice, several calling the meat tender and well seasoned and one describing the shawarma as among the best they've had. Close behind, diners mention the lamb main with rice or pasta as tender and flavorful, along with mocktails like the Ocean Blue and dishes such as the halloumi starter, taouk chicken and brownies for dessert. The decor and atmosphere draw consistent notice, described as classy and calm with a semi-open kitchen some enjoyed watching. Service is largely called attentive and friendly, though it isn't universal: one reviewer describes waiting twenty minutes with staff huddled around a phone, plates dropped on the table, and tea that never arrived despite being ordered, calling it rude even while praising the food itself. A couple of reviews also note overcooked chicken skin on the platter and bathrooms needing attention. The experience closes on repeated mentions of large shared platters sending diners home with leftovers.

“We had the mixed grill with pasta (red sauce) and we had the Chicken shawarma meal with fries. We also had the Ocean Blue mocktail and a J20. All the food was fresh and perfectly cooked. One of the best shawarmas I've ever had, not greasy. The mocktail was lovely too.”

“Fenous is my go-to restaurant for Mediterranean and Middle Eastern food. The food is consistently excellent, and the atmosphere is always warm and welcoming. It's also a very family-friendly restaurant, making it a great choice for all occasions. The customer service is fantastic, with attentive and friendly staff who always make you feel welcome. As it's so popular, the restaurant can get very busy at weekends, so it's worth booking in advance if you can. Overall, the food is delicious, the service is consistently great, and the dining experience never disappoints. I'd highly recommend Fenous to anyone looking for authentic Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine.”

“Amazing authentic Somali food, great service and lovely atmosphere. Best of all, I got to meet my favourite singer Nicmaan Hilaac here – he was so kind! Unforgettable visit, highly recommended.”

“Horrible customer service - I got seated and waited 20 minutes for a waiter. Nobody came but they were all at the very front huddled around a phone. I called them on my mobile to get them to come over because they were oblivious to their customers. The restaurant only had 4 other tables seated. We asked for three cups of tea to be served whilst we wait for the food to come out and didn’t receive them even after the food so we just cancelled them. And the waiter dropped the plates in a pile on the table and walked away. Honestly, just a rude waiter with no care whatsoever. The food was honestly really good. They’d be amazing as a takeaway, it’s a shame the customer service was so horrible. Otherwise I’m sure I’d come back.”
