About Dera

Dera serves Pakistani food on Coventry Rd in Birmingham, with a halal menu and family seating available upstairs for parents with young children, supported by high chairs. Lamb karahi is a recurring dish, alongside seekh kebabs served straight from the grill and a large mixed grill for sharing. Roti and naan come off the tandoor fresh, and a water bottle is placed on the table upon seating, though not as a complimentary item. The restaurant opens daily for evenings only, and reservations are recommended. Payment is cash only, so diners should plan accordingly. Parking is available on the side road for those driving in.

Customer Review Summary

The lamb karahi draws the most mentions of any dish, though opinions split sharply: several reviewers call it a specialty, tender and well spiced, while others found it lacking flavor, bone heavy, or served cold, and one delivery order called the portion too small for what it cost. Close behind, the lamb chops and seekh kebabs earn steadier praise, described as juicy, meaty, and fresh off the grill, with the charsi chops and mixed grill also singled out as tender. Fresh tandoor roti and a well liked mango lassi round out the positives, and the tea gets a specific mention as something diners return for. Complaints recur around inconsistency: naan has been called mediocre and microwave tasting on one visit and served late on another, while one reviewer describes a curry drenched in oil and tasteless, and another reports stingy chip portions and burnt, sparse lamb chops. One reviewer also recalls overhearing a staff argument through a propped open door, and another describes the whole family falling ill with stomach upset after eating there.

“Ordered via uber eats food was not packed properly just wrapped in paper and when it arrived it was cold taste was okay considering the price the portion was too small I ordered half lamb karahi for £21 considering the taste and portion size without roti does not worth it”

“Mixed Grill was of good standard so il give them that. However the lamb karahi had too much masala on it, quiet frankly I was rather disappointed as I always hear good mentions about this place. Chicken curry aswell weren't upto standard, again it just felt like they had used tinned masala to cook this stuff”

“Worst curry I’ve ever had. Absolutely drenched in oil and tasteless. Naan was mediocre but can’t really go wrong with it, tasted microwaved. Would never recommend anyone to order from here or eat in restaurant unless you enjoy oil with a side of curry. Beware of this, unless you enjoy a plate full of oil for your dinner. AVOID. -5/10”

“customer service was rude and dismissive, which made the whole interaction unpleasant from start to finish. It felt like they had no interest in listening or helping, and basic courtesy was completely lacking. Rude customer services”
