About Spice Hut
On Coventry Rd in Birmingham, Spice Hut is an Indian takeaway at number 558 that builds much of its menu around naga donner. The donner comes as a full meal or tucked into naan, and the naga wings are coated in a hot naga sauce. The kitchen also cooks lamb donner and lamb chops, and burger fans can order smash burger or chicken burger meals. The Loaded Box (Lb1) bundles wings, a cheeseburger, chips and a drink in one order. Extra sauces come with orders, including a yellow mint sauce.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the naga donner, a fiery, smoky meat served in naan or a meal box, and the naga wings coated in the same glaze, which several call crispy and intensely hot. Close behind are the blood red chilli sauce and the lamb chops from a loaded box, described as well marinated. Chips are repeatedly called fresh and crispy, and portions are described as big enough to take leftovers home, with meals at modest prices. The burgers divide opinion: one calls the smash burger a bit small and another finds the burger bland. Friendly, welcoming staff come up repeatedly. A few reviewers say quality has slipped, describing donner meat with little flavour, stale and under-salted food, a shish kebab that tasted of turmeric and bad oil, and nuggets sent in place of the wings ordered for a child. One more found the donner smelled odd and the curry unremarkable. Others who compare it to the original London branch say the wings, sauces and donner taste just like it, and one praises speedy, piping hot delivery with plenty of sauce.

“10/10. Definitely tastes like original spice hut in Stepney from early 2000’s no joke. The wings sauces doner everything taste exactly like Stepney London spice hut in the early 2000’s. I think this one’s better now cos Stepney original spice hut has fell off. This one is better. Red sauce and chilli sauce on point doner everything taste exactly like old school spice hut. Very impressed.”

“Unfortunately the Quaility of the food and service has dropped incredibly. I have been going to spice hut consistently over the last few years but after my last few visits it will be my last. The food has been stale, flavourless ive found hair in my food and the carry bag seems to have masala smeared all over it. I paid close to £20 for a meal for two and had to leave most of the food.”

“I recently visited Spice Hut and tried their Lb1 Loaded Box, which came with lamb donner, wings, lamb chops, a single cheeseburger, chips, and a drink—honestly, it was a proper feast. Everything came out fresh, hot, and packed with flavour. The lamb donner was nicely seasoned and tender, the wings were crispy on the outside and juicy inside, and the lamb chops were a standout—really well marinated and cooked perfectly. The cheeseburger was solid, and the chips were fresh and complemented everything well. Portion sizes were generous, definitely good value for money. Big shoutout to Shabz as well—really friendly, welcoming, and provided great service. Made the whole experience feel comfortable and enjoyable, which always makes a difference. Overall, a great spot if you’re looking for tasty food, big portions, and good service. I’ll definitely be coming back.”

“Tried first time with family whilst out for Eid shopping. In all honesty it was average at best. The donner meat had a weird smell to it and the curry wasn’t the best. Sorry to say this place is not for me. The service was spot on though.”

“Went to Spice Hut yesterday while I was in Birmingham for a conference and I’m glad I did. I’d heard about it being popular down in London, so wanted to try it — and it definitely lived up to expectations. Ordered the naga donner naan, chips and naga wings — proper flavour if you enjoy naga. Being Bengali myself, this was right up my street 😄 The spice level was spot on, and the sauces were amazing. The chips were also really nice — crispy and fresh, not soggy like you sometimes get. Clean place. Yellow mint sauce was very nice. What stood out most though was the service. The brother serving me (I think his name was Riyaz/Riyad?) was really kind and welcoming. We ended up having a nice chat, and it just felt genuine. Since I don’t come to Birmingham often, it was one of those moments you appreciate — we said Allah hafiz at the end and made dua for each other. Proper wholesome interaction. Overall, great food, great spice, and even better hospitality. 5⭐ from me.”
