About Mowgli Street Food Birmingham
Mowgli Street Food Birmingham is an Indian restaurant at Unit 30 in Birmingham, serving its food in traditional tiffin-box style dishes. The kitchen sends plates out as and when they are ready, so starters and mains can reach the table together, and each table keeps its cutlery in a small ghee container. The menu includes butter chicken, paneer makhani and lamb bunny chow, with vegetarian and vegan options alongside. Mango lassi and a chai rum sling cocktail cover the drinks. The room has wooden furniture, fairy lights and hanging rope swing chairs. The restaurant is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the flavour of the food, with the lamb bunny chow and chicken biriani called out as outstanding. Close behind are the butter chicken and paneer makhani, the angry bird chicken thighs, new onion bhajis and chaat bomb, plus the mango lassi and chai rum sling. Diners also enjoy the tiffin-style dishes, fairy lights and rope swing chairs, and describe the staff as friendly and welcoming. The main complaint is pacing. One diner says a server's shift ended mid-visit and one of two drinks never came, another found service slow, and a couple report food arriving together or lukewarm, with mains cold by the time the starter was done. One reviewer found the dahl makhani and house chicken curry too sweet, and a coriander and garlic paratha arrived with no garlic. For a vegetarian guest avoiding onion and garlic, the head chef cooked a temple dahl that was described as very tasty.

“Lunch at Mowgli in Grand Central, Birmingham. Even though there were only two staff serving, they did everything to assist us. Service was slow so good job we were not in a hurry. My mother is vegetarian plus no onion & no garlic so not easy to cater for. The head chef cooked a temple dahl (yellow lentils) and it was very tasty. The angry bird chicken thighs and new onion bhajis were very good for me. Also happy with the mango lassi. Would recommend & will definitely come again”

“Really loved the thought that went into the decor here. Fairy lights, wooden furniture and hanging rope swing chairs gave the place a warm, playful feel. Even the little details were considered- each table had a little ghee container holding the cutlery, which I thought was such a cute touch! The food was served in traditional Indian tiffin-box style dishes, which made the whole experience even more fun. We had the butter chicken and paneer makhani, both served with lovely long-grain basmati rice. Good, comforting Indian fare with a really nice presentation.”

“Absolutely loved this experience. The lamb bunny chow and the chicken biriani were out of this world! A wonderfully flavourful meal. We'll definitely visit again. Thanks to Theresa for superb service. You have such a lovely and warm personality.”

“Pros, Service was prompt & welcoming. Presentation was good & portion size was good just for one person. Chaat bomb was good. Cons- we ordered coriander & garlic paratha, garlic was missing & the paratha's except of grilled marks it's not made in house, daal makhni's daal should have been cooked more. Mowgli house chicken curry made with coconut milk & tempered with curry leaves, both daal & curry were very sweet it's very unlikely that an Indian food is that sweet.”

“Mowgli is all about how Indians eat at home and on their streets. She was born to feed the raw need Indians have for tiffins full of fresh bright intense flavour. Mowgli is not about the intimate, hushed dining experience. It is about the smash and grab zing of healthy, light, virtuosic herbs and spices. The simple dishes of a Mowgli menu are a million miles away from the curry stereotype. These dishes convey the truth that real Indian food is extremely healthy, often vegan and always packed with fresh flavour.”
