About The Old Moseley Arms
The Old Moseley Arms is a pub in Birmingham, at 53 Tindal St, that pairs Indian curries with real ales. The kitchen serves lamb spinach balti and chicken biryani, and the bar pours cask beer, with both well-known and lesser-known casks on tap. The interior is divided into several small seating areas, and an open fire burns in the pub. The space is small, so groups of four or more can find it hard to get seated together. Food is not served during weekday daytimes.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the Indian food, with the lamb balti singled out repeatedly, one calling it the best curry they have had, alongside the densely filled samosas, chicken balti and chicken biryani. Close behind is the real ale, described as beautifully kept, with a long-serving publican and Bathams Best Bitter named. Several mention the fireplace and an old school, welcoming feel, and the bar staff are called friendly. Some find the portions small, one saying the mixed grill was not big enough, and another wanting more flavour. Seating in each area is described as small. One reviewer notes no food is served on weekday daytimes. The most serious complaint describes a main course wait of nearly two hours, a refund that came back at roughly £19 of a £32 order, and curries that arrived with plain chicken instead of the tikka ordered. One diner mentions free poppadoms.

“We won't be returning or recommending this place to anyone. We ordered our food at 7.30. We receive our starters but we sensed that food orders were slow that evening so we waited patiently for our mains. At 8.50, I asked when our mains would be coming. The guy behind the bar said it would be probably be 5-10 mins. At 9.10, another table who asked after us when their mains would be coming received their mains but we had not. My partner asked for a refund. A different bar man checked with the kitchen and told us our food would be 30 mins (that's 50 mins after we first asked when our mains would be coming). The first barman said we ordered an hour ago - no it was an hour and 40 mins ago. The boss was called to give us a refund but said our food was suddenly ready. We still wanted the refund. We were advised our mains would be refunded. Our mains order was almost £32 and we only received £19 back. In our hunger, it's not something we double checked at the time but something we checked when the refund came through a few days later. They did allow us to take the mains we ordered as a takeaway as well as the refund. We ordered chicken tikka in our curries but when we got home, it was plain chicken. If chicken tikka wasn't an option with our curry, no body told us. Even without being 36 weeks pregnant and patiently waiting on a stool for our mains for so long, it's not acceptable to leave people waiting almost 2 hours for dinner, offer a refund but then not process it fully.”

“I really loved the vibes of this old school pub. It has a community feel but is really welcoming to visitors too. The Indian food is terrific and fairly priced (especially liked the densely filled samosas and the lamb spinach balti), the real ale beautifully kept (with both well known and less familiar casks on tap), and the bar staff genuinely friendly. I’m not often in Birmingham but would make a bee-line for this place next I am!”

“Great pub with loads of character and a really welcoming atmosphere. I’m there pretty much weekly now and always have a good time. The staff are friendly, the drinks are good, and there’s always a relaxed vibe whether it’s busy or quiet. It’s become one of my regular places because you always feel welcome there. Definitely recommend The Old Moseley Arms if you’re after a proper pub.”

“Beautiful pub with a fireplace, Great service! Got the Lamb Balti and it was maybe the best curry I’ve had period. Thanks for the free poppadoms”

“Visited of an evening for dinner with friends. Quite a small place and difficult to seat 4+ but we found a way. A proper old school pub, I really liked it and the fireplace was toasty! I have been recommended this pub by a number of people, I opted for a mixed grill which was very nice but I fear not big enough... I tried one of the curry dishes and Immediately wished I had one of those if I'm honest. I shall return for a curry soon as the small taster I had was absolutely amazing!”
