About The London and North Western

The London and North Western is a Wetherspoon pub inside New Street Station in Birmingham, and it is the company's most recent site in the city centre. Customers order at the bar with a table number, or through the app for table service. Food is served from a hot plate, and the dishes include pizza and a chicken basket with chips. Coffee comes from a machine, and a refillable coffee and tea deal is available for hot drink fans.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to how busy this station pub gets, with slow service the recurring result. One describes about fifteen minutes for a single coke despite the app promising a short wait, another says there is no queue system and the tables sit very close together, and a third says service can be slow because of the crowds. Food splits opinion. Fans praise a pizza with a Guinness and hot, inexpensive meals with a refillable coffee and tea deal, though one calls it a little greasy. Others report a chicken basket that was only warm, with the manager saying it was kept on a hot plate and no offer to recook it, and a breakfast of cold toast, hash brown and eggs with lukewarm machine coffee and no dairy-free milk. Several praise friendly staff, including a young server who brought two beer samples when the order had run out and another who guided a blind customer by the arm while rushing around. One reviewer describes a pint vanishing from a reserved table and a manager who seemed accusatory after checking CCTV.

“A little greasy, sure, and Saturday seemed to have better cooks on duty than Monday, but reliably good hot inexpensive food, very gracious and friendly service, and a refillable coffee/tea deal that can’t be beat.”

“Came into pub tonight to order food and drinks , the chicken basket with chips , everything was just warm didn’t taste not good at all . Up on speaking to male member of staffs who I believed to pub management and express my disappointment with food . The response I got well it’s kept on hot plate . When you’re spending money you aspect food to be hot hence I order hot food and not cold . I’m of view of the manager I spoken to is over all pub manager. This really concerns me how complaints being under looked and no apogee not even to offer to re cook it .”

“Extremely disappointing customer service. I would avoid this location. I have visited Wetherspoons pubs all over the country and have never experienced service as poor as this. As I didn’t have the app, I followed the usual procedure of taking a table and going to the bar to order my food and another drink, giving the table number. I left my pint on the table to clearly indicate that it was occupied. When I returned, my drink had disappeared and a party of four had moved my table (No. 20), together with another table, and sat down. When I questioned this, I was told there had been no drink on the table. I politely asked a waitress whether they had taken my drink. Rather than simply resolving the issue, a member of the management team approached me in what I found to be an extremely aggressive and confrontational manner. She told me that she had checked the CCTV and claimed that I had not been anywhere near the table. When I tried to respond and explain what had happened, I was cut off and then accused of being confrontational. I found this extremely unfair and completely unnecessary. I was simply trying to explain my side of what had happened and was not given a reasonable opportunity to do so. The loss of a drink is one thing; being spoken to in such an accusatory and hostile manner as a customer is quite another. I was made to feel as though I was lying, rather than having my concern dealt with professionally and respectfully. I had absolutely no reason to make this up, and I believe the CCTV should be reviewed again, particularly the footage showing what happened at the table before I went to the bar. I would strongly encourage Wetherspoons senior management to look into this incident, including reviewing the CCTV and how the matter was handled. Customers should be treated with courtesy and respect, even when there is a disagreement or misunderstanding. Having visited Wetherspoons establishments across the country, this is by far the worst experience I have had. Extremely disappointing and, unfortunately, not a location I would choose to visit again.”

“Definitely one of the best spoons in Birmingham. Service can be slow as it is too busy. But sit outside on a sunny day and you have yourself a chill day. Food is good.”

“This place is BUSY so be warned you might not get a seat. Additionally, the app told me drink wait times were two minutes but it took about fifteen minutes to get a single coke, and the tables are incredibly close to one another. But it's a Wetherspoons, so you know what you're getting. Haven't tried the food but i imagine it's like any other Wetherspoons. A good place to hang around if you want cheap food whilst waiting for your train but I wouldn't come here if you're not using the station.”
