About Nortons Digbeth
On Meriden St in Birmingham, Nortons Digbeth is an Irish pub and live music venue with a dance hall area. Live music plays every Friday and Saturday night, which gives the dance hall area its purpose. Guinness is poured from the tap, with crafted and local ales alongside it. Sunday lunch is a roast with beef and gammon and Yorkshire pudding, and the chef comes out to greet tables. A hot honey and pepperoni pizza is also on the menu. Irish sport and football are shown on the screens, and tables can be booked for match days. The pub opens Thursday to Sunday and is closed Monday to Wednesday. A family runs it.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the Guinness, called superb, creamy and well poured, with a good spread of craft and local ales behind it. Close behind is the Sunday roast, where the gammon and beef are described as cooked to perfection, with proper Yorkshire pudding and standout gravy, and the chef coming out to check on tables. Live music and a friendly, jovial crowd come up repeatedly, along with a welcoming owner and staff, though one reviewer calls the dance hall area somewhat raucous. The sharpest complaints come from two match-day and bottomless-brunch bookings. One group says it waited well over an hour for a first round, was refused service at the indoor bar while the outdoor bar was short-staffed, and saw drinks thrown with no security in sight. Another says the bottomless price rose on arrival from what was advertised at booking, the food came cold, and three people were served after the rest had finished. A hot honey and pepperoni pizza drew praise even from the unhappy table, and one reviewer was poured a Guinness by the owner who then declined payment.

“Attended on Saturday to watch England v Norway in the quarter final for the World Cup. I had booked a "VIP" table earlier in the week for 18 guests, and paid a £165 deposit, which would be reapplied as a bar tab. The food was amazing, my friend and I shared a hot honey and pepperoni pizza which was fab, and the rest of us all said how great the food was. The let down was the service and the general management of the business. It took 1 hour and 45 minutes to get served at the bar for our first round. There were only 2 bartenders serving in the outdoor bar, so when we tried to get served inside, we were told we weren't allowed. The second round of drinks took us 1 hour and 15 minutes. There was no structure or uniform on being served and was just a free for all really. I genuinely ended up missing the whole of the match. I understand if staff have phoned in sick or not turned up, however, not allowing customers to use another bar, wasn't great. Considering we paid £167 deposit, and receieved an £150 bar tab, which took so long to receive was extremely disappointing. The atmosphere was good, however things started to get violent towards that end, with people actually just chucking drinks straight in people's faces, which isn't the bars fault, it's an England game, things get rowdy, but there was no security anywhere to be seen, so we left in a hurry. All in all, I probably wouldn't return in a hurry, maybe for the pizza during the day, but definitley not for a football match.”

“Popped into Digbeth for a couple of beers, unfortunately Norton‘s was closed as it was a mid-week evening, however Peter (Connolly) was doing some work in the outdoor area and popped his head over the fence for a quick chat, before inviting us in for a beer and conversation. As usual the Guinness was superb and excellently poured by the man himself, who coincidentally would not take any money off us. This sums up what Peter and Norton‘s is all about, an absolute favourite and somewhere I always take visitors from home and abroad to for great beer, food, music and craic.”

“We had a booking on Saturday under for the “bottomless”. The advertised price at the time of booking was £39 per person, and we each paid a £5 deposit based on that. However, on arrival, we were told the price had increased and we were required to pay £40 each. It’s completely unacceptable to change the price on the day after taking a booking and deposit at a lower rate. The food was also a major issue. Not only was it cold and unpleasant, but three of us didn’t receive any food until after the rest of the group had already finished, which is simply not good enough. Drinks service was equally disappointing. The Guinness from the tap in our area was poor, and we were told it was better at another bar, meaning staff had to go elsewhere to get it. The waitress was clearly overstretched, running around trying to manage too many tables, which resulted in long waits for drinks. While we do feel for the staff, the overall service suffered significantly. As a result of all this, we left shortly after our booking time as the whole experience was a disaster. We won’t be returning, especially when there are so many other places in Birmingham offering far better food, service, and value for money.”

“Now that the "Lamp Tavern" has regrettably closed, Nortons has assumed the crown of the best Guinness in Brum, although their new venture "The Anchor" is already pushing for that honour. Not only is the Guinness a superb pint, there's a very good array of crafted and local ales on offer. Only slightly disappointed there isn't a stronger selection of Irish whiskey (The brilliant Writer's Tears for instance), but they have Teelings, so not all bad. The atmosphere can get somewhat raucous in the dance hall area, but the Digbeth of old still resonates through the pub, friendly, good banter and always jovial. Great pub, always visit when in the city.”

“Digbeth’s least traditional Irish pub and live music venue. Family made & family run, friendly crowds and mighty craic. Live music every Friday and Saturday night, gigs throughout the week, craft & local beers. Live sport rom Sky Sport and BT sports, with a big screen in the beer garden and TVs across the pub. Sláinte Babs!”
