About Subside Bar
On High St in Birmingham, Subside Bar is a live music bar at number 57 that centres on rock and metal. Bands play live rock and metal gigs on its stage, and the same genres are what the bar plays the rest of the time. Security staff are on the door and around the venue.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly staff and security, who several say keep the night feeling safe, with one describing door staff helping a drunk friend into a taxi rather than throwing her out. Close behind are the rock and metal music, cheap drinks and a good Friday night atmosphere, plus pool tables that reviewers call clean and popular. One mentions live metal gigs with free entry, and another notes a small garden for smokers. Complaints center on the toilets, where one reviewer says something is wrong on every visit, including missing toilet paper and a lock that does not work, and another asks for a refurb. Others find the bar slow, with queues three or four rows deep and only two bar staff. One reviewer found the room hot and smelly. That same reviewer was annoyed that the ticket office said leaving for another bar and coming back would mean paying entry again.

“I love a good metal bar but this place just gets worse and worse… Firstly it’s ridiculous that they charge a fiver to get in when they can’t even keep the temperature of the place bearable… But the most hilarious thing is that the guy in the ticket office told us we can leave for 5 minutes but if we go to a different bar and come back he would charge us another £5. 😂 This kind of attitude is toxic - just give people a stamp so they can come and go as they like rather than being trapped on a hot smelly heavy metal prison.”

“Solid spot with a great atmosphere and friendly crowd. Had a brilliant night overall with my friends, good vibes throughout. There was a brief moment when some randos tried to kick off, but it got handled quickly and professionally by the staff (shoutout to Bev on the door, absolute legend, gives off Hagrid energy in the best way). I will def come back!”

“I have been here a lot of times now, and every time has been amazing. There isn’t a single member of staff whether that be the security guards, bartender, or glass collector that has ever been unhelpful or rude. ALL the staff are so lovely, energetic and bring positive energy when delivering to their customers. I feel it’s important to be able to feel safe on a night out and the security guards deliver that. For example my friend got to drunk here the other week (lol) and the security guards helped me sort her out and get an uber for her rather then just chucking her out like what a lot of nightclubs would do in this scenario. Every time I have been to the bar (and that’s a lot of times now HAHAHHAHA) the staff have smiles on their faces and they look passionate about making drinks. And lastly, the pretty young women who collects glasses is both beautiful and cheerful 😊 The only thing that I would say is a little refurb for the toilets Thanks for making my uni experience in Birmingham AMAZINN subside team!”

“I enjoy subs and I accept that it's a dive bar, not a five star establishment, but I do think there's a couple of things that are lacking. The toilets always have something wrong with them - either no toilet paper, no soap, no working lock, or filth all over them. I'll attend at various times of the day and it's always something gone wrong with them. I understand when it's a very busy Saturday night, things slip through the cracks. But it'll happen in the afternoon on a weekday which confuses me. The staff all seem to work really hard, I always see them running about. But because it's so busy (often 3-4 rows deep queueing at the bar) with only 2 bar staff, it is often a really long wait time. Not a big deal if you're in a group and doing rounds, but when you're attending alone it can be a bit meh having to wait. Your security are 10/10 though. I've witnessed multiple incidents where the security have been able to talk people down, remove people swiftly, and diffuse situations before they kick off. I do feel really safe here, and I've had younger female friends say the same which i feel confirms that”

“Had a brilliant time in here having been recommended the place by a formal local. We travelled from sheffield for the football but ended up spending the night and early hours in Subside. Reminded us a bit of Satans Hollow in Manc. Great unpretentious fun anyway. Will be back”
