About The Old Royal
The Old Royal is a wood-panelled pub in Birmingham, on Church St, with an upstairs lounge that gives a quieter spot away from the bar. The kitchen serves British food, including fish and chips and a mixed grill, and a "2 for" lunch menu deal is part of the offer. Cocktails are served at the bar, and screens show sports, including England matches. Tables can be booked. Groups can take over the whole pub for private hire, and functions such as wedding receptions are held there.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is the dish reviewers raise most, called very tasty and praised for arriving quickly at a lunchtime two-meal deal. Close behind, one diner describes a generous mixed grill where every meat was delicious, and another singles out a Ranch Salad with crispy chips. Reviewers also mention a good range of beers, nice wine and coffee, and cocktails poured by the bartender. Staff come up repeatedly as friendly and helpful, and several call the pub clean, with comfortable seating, low music and screens for sports. A wedding party that hired the whole pub describes staff storing the cake in a fridge, taking deliveries through the day and moving furniture around. The one recurring caveat is noise: a reviewer popping in before noon found groups already getting rowdy, though another found the vibe jovial rather than rowdy. One reviewer who booked a table for an England match found the order at table service worked well, and another mentions a quieter upstairs lounge.

“Nice to see an independent pub doing well in the city. Staff were friendly and keeping on top of cleaning tables. Comfortable seating and some music playing, screens were also on as expected in a sports bar, vibe was jovial but not rowdy so this was comforting. Would return and perhaps try out the food menu next time.”

“We hired the entire pub privately for our wedding reception and couldn’t have been happier with Anthony and the entire team. They were so cooperative and flexible and did everything they could to provide the most perfect evening for us. We asked a lot of them in terms of accommodating various deliveries from suppliers throughout the day, storing our wedding cake in one of their fridges beforehand and moving lots of the furniture around, but nothing we asked for was too much for them and they were happy to let us arrange things however we liked. I’ve had nothing but good feedback from our guests, who enjoyed the welcome drinks and buffet and had great bar service all evening. Thanks again to the entire team - I couldn’t recommend the Old Royal highly enough for private functions. We’ll certainly be back for more parties in the future!”

“Great example of a city centre pub quite the grunge! Good range of beers, comfy seating, sparklingly clean, mixture of locals and visitors (it seemed). Above average mainstream menu, tasty and fresh Ranch Salad and crispy chips, yum!”

“Great pub, fabulous food and friendly staff. We had booked a table to have a meal and drink while we watched one of the England matches. Great atmosphere and the order at table service worked really well. Thanks for a wonderful evening 😊”
