Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the breakfast, from a full breakfast described as tasty to eggs and mushrooms and avocado on toast, with homemade cake, scones and hot chocolate close behind. Afternoon tea on laid china with leftovers boxed up also drew praise. Many mention friendly staff and a rustic, Mad-Hatter style bookshop theme, and one stayed with a glass of wine and a book while waiting for a train. Prices split opinion: some find the menu reasonable, while others call the food and drinks expensive. Complaints are specific. One had overcooked scrambled eggs on a veggie breakfast and pancakes with near raw bacon, another found the vegetarian grill deep fried to excess, and one said a biscoff latte was just a regular latte with spread at the bottom. Coffee is called horribly bitter by one reviewer, though others rate it highly. One describes being ignored by three staff members and having to queue again for the second half of an online order. Another notes that the cafe gets very noisy by midday, with babies and dogs adding to the din, while a former blue light discount has been replaced by a loyalty card.

“We had afternoon tea here today. On arrival our reserved table was already laid with beautiful china. The food was gorgeous and every item tasted really fresh. The service was spot on - helpful and friendly. We couldn't eat it all and were given nice non-plastic boxes for our leftovers. Thank you for an excellent afternoon - we recommend it.”

“Whilst the staff are friendly and the decor is OK, what really makes the experience is the food and drink. The food and drink are not anything special and extremely expensive here though.... Honestly, just go over to Morrisons Cafe and get yourself something decent for half the price.”

“No longer offers blue light discount, was told about the loyalty card instead. It's average, food, coffee and service. Been in a few times past couple of months, time and time again there's just better (and more importantly better value) offerings elsewhere in town. I had the Veggie breakfast with overcooked scrambled eggs and it is overpriced for what it is and my friends pancakes, the bacon was near enough raw.”

“Firstly food was lovely, really good breakfast/lunch foods made to a very good standard. Service was poor, 3 people ignoring me for 2 minutes despite all having looked at me to then advised me someone will be with me in two minutes, to hand me half my online order, had to queue back up for the other half because despite the person who gave it to me watching me walk back in the store 2 seconds after leaving she didnt feel the need to ask if anything was wrong. And thirdly, putting some actually spreadable biscoff at the bottom of an iced latte does not make it a biscoff latte it makes it a normal latte which has bits of spread in it. Buy the syrup or pull it off the menu, would go here again but mostly because it's local.”

“This is a little gem! I had full breakfast which was unbelievable tasty! Staff are very friendly happy and make you feel so welcome. As I had to wait few hrs for my train I stayed with glass wine and book. Highly recommend this place.”
