About Bourne's Coffee Shop & Bistro

Bourne's Coffee Shop & Bistro is a cafe and restaurant at Denby Pottery Village in Ripley, serving a nine-item menu that includes Quiche Lorraine and Begg with Vegetables. Meals arrive on Denby pottery, and food is ordered at the counter rather than through table service. Breakfast runs for a limited window, one hour shorter on Sundays, and a queue can build as that window closes. The Big breakfast uses ingredients from a local butchers shop, and vegetable soup is offered as a starter. Sunday brings a roast dinner with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, and cauliflower cheese. The cafe opens daily in the daytime only, and reservations are recommended. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, high chairs are available for families with young children, and outdoor seating extends the space beyond the counter area. Free Wi-Fi is available, and food can also be ordered for takeaway.

Customer Review Summary

Roast dinners draw the most praise, with reviewers highlighting crispy roasties and cauliflower cheese alongside good portion sizes and reasonable pricing. Close behind, the big breakfast earns repeat mentions, cooked with local butcher's ingredients, and the afternoon tea stands out for its fresh sandwiches, generous scones, and unlimited tea or coffee served in Denby Pottery. The homemade vegetable soup and homity pie also get specific praise. Complaints center on inconsistent execution: one diner describes a long wait for breakfast served only lukewarm from pots that weren't hot, with no apology offered though another table reportedly received a free coffee after complaining. A separate reviewer recounts a Sunday lunch marred by burnt Yorkshire puddings and chewy beef. Others note overcooked poached eggs, and a couple mention the breakfast service window is limited to just a couple of hours. Several reviewers flag that there's no table service. One reviewer who received the afternoon tea says they were offered leftovers to take home, and multiple diners describe returning or planning to return.

I had the big breakfast, perfectly cooked with ingredients from the local butchers shop. Added bonus for me was the tinned tomatoes instead of fresh, which I very much prefer. I will definitely be back.

Went for breakfast at the tail end of the breakfast window . Waited 45 mins for food wich we ended up buying another drink. Do t mind waiting if the food is good and hot . Unfortunately this wasn't the case . Could see from where I sat the the food was being put onto plates out of pots that weren't even radiating any heat . And when was served at the table was only slightly warm . I like my food hot. Really sad as the price paid was more than the average breakfast price. Sausage wasn't to my liking I like more meat than bread ratio. Hash browns were of good quality although cold. Just really poor. I'm sorry I have to leave this review . I did notice the couple 2 in front of us in the queue complained of the wait and got a free coffee. We never even got an apology for the wait . In this instance it goes a long way . Such a lovely restaurant but the basic of hot 🔥 food missing.

The homemade vegetable soup was delicious, I had beef with potatoes and veg for my main meal, that too I cannot fault, it was delicious 😁it was very busy due to the fact it was the Christmas market weekend, even so the service was smooth and friendly. I highly recommend it. Be aware it is not table service.

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
