Customer Review Summary
The riverside garden is the draw reviewers raise most, described as lovely, well laid out and roomy, with big screens for sport. Afternoon tea comes close behind, with praise for the butterfly cakes with mango preserve, the beef and horseradish sandwich fingers and the scones with clotted cream, though one diner found the portions small and weighted toward sweet over savoury. Others name a full rack of ribs with meat falling off the bone, a ribeye with onion rings, and a mango cider. Staff are often called friendly and welcoming. The recurring complaint is the person at the bar, described as short or dismissive, and one reviewer left without a table feeling unwelcome. A detailed account of a busy visit reports a long wait to order, a raw chicken wing on a starter, pre formed sliced turkey, and beef served rare when well done was requested. That party was invited back and found a beautifully cooked turkey crown.

“Called before we went to ask if we needed to book a table and was told if after 5 it would be ok. When we turned up the young man at the bar was very dismissive about us not having a booking, there were 2 of us, and he kept mentioning there were others waiting and we couldn't jump the queue, we didn't ask to. We ordered drinks and asked if he would shout us when the table was ready and he seemed displeased with having to do this and mentioned it could be 45 mins or more, he then avoided all eye contact with us and there were multiple empty tables, he mentioned again we couldn't jump the queue and I again reminded him we weren't asking to. He made us feel unwelcome so I left my drink and we went up the road to a warm welcome and good food.”

“UPDATE: On Sunday our whole party returned to the Three Fyshes after being invited back as we had a very unusual poor experience the previous visit. We are so glad we did! We all ordered the same as before and I can honestly say it was perfect…. The food was its normal delicious high standard, the turkey was a beautifully cooked crown and everyone loved their meals. The service was impeccable as always and I would like to say how great the staff were. Thank you especially Scott and Sara for fully restoring our faith in the Three Fyshes and we will be back, thank you once again 5 * all round! This was always a favourite of ours but yesterday we had one of the poorest meals and would question going back. The pub was busy granted but to sit and wait from a 3:30 booking until 4:45 to order is unacceptable especially with a 10 month old baby with us. Even after this long wait while our server was taking our order the manager came up and in front of us decided to say that there was a table outside who was before us, no excuse me, no recognition on how long we had been sat waiting just spoke to the server, to which I said they were a walk in and came in long after we had ordered our drinks from the bar whilst waiting. One I found this unprofessional and two highly inappropriate given the amount of time we had been waiting. When we finally ordered, and the lengthy wait for the food to follow, to say I was very disappointed when I had a raw chicken wing on the combination starter was an understatement. The staff were good and I did not make a big thing of it and they took my plate away after we had finished apologising saying “sorry about the raw chicken” and that was the end of it. I had previously had a turkey roast here before and always praised the freshness and high quality of the meat, I was surprised given the price of the roast to see two thinly sliced pre formed pieces of turkey and not the fresh carved turkey crown we had come to expect. The beef on the plate of another person in our party was very rare and fatty when it had specifically been asked for well done, this was left on the plate. The beef stroganoff was very nice as always and the ribs were very good but all in all £85 per couple for two courses and a couple of drinks for a very average at best meal was disappointing. I would question the actions of the manager while waiting for food and the lack of any sort of communication from him on the raw food served bringing down the atmosphere and making it not an enjoyable experience. I appreciate the pub was busy when we arrived and we were told the kitchen was behind so we patiently waited unlike customers who left before being served, but that does not excuse the quality of food on the roasts. This used to be fresh joints and not cheap pre formed sliced meat which has significantly gone downhill. Such a shame as this was definitely a place to go but very average now at best, given the amount of money spent on the outside of the pub which is incredible I feel the menu has suffered.”
