About The Barge
The Barge is a pub in Milton Keynes at 15 Newport Rd, built in the early 19th century to serve workers constructing the Grand Union Canal and later used as a stop by narrow boaters. The kitchen cooks seasonal pub dishes, and cask ales are served at the bar. Waitresses provide table service and talk guests through the menu. Starters can be shared or ordered as light bites, and an offer covers three of them together. The team asks about allergies and handles requests such as a peanut allergy. Tables can be booked in advance, including at short notice.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are about value and delivery. A regular found a Caesar salad with chicken sparse, with a few leaves, croutons and cherry tomato halves. The manager offered only a 10% discount, which left the group embarrassed in front of visiting friends. A Deliveroo lamb roast arrived as three pieces that were mostly fat, with two and a half potatoes.

“We were served by Allison last night and she was great, very friendly, attentive and well informed of the menu. She was also very patient while we took some time to decide on dessert because we were yapping too much. Would definitely recommend and will be back!”

“A Welcoming Gem with Exceptional Service Finding a spot that hits the mark on both great food and true accessibility can be a challenge, but this pub/restaurant delivers on every front. We booked a table in advance, and from the moment we arrived, the team made us feel completely at ease. Our waitress, Keira, was fantastic—friendly, attentive, and thoroughly professional. Even when a large party arrived mid-meal, she handled the rush effortlessly, ensuring the big table was looked after while continuing to engage with us and keep our service seamless. Accessibility Dining out with my mum—who uses a wheelchair and has dementia—can sometimes feel overwhelming, but Keira and the team went out of their way to make her feel comfortable, relaxed, and truly included. The food was very nice, served hot and full of flavour despite a busy floor. quality pub dining done right. We will certainly be back—highly recommended!”

“Our waitress Allison was the most memorable part of our visit. She was friendly, entertaining and helpful. We enjoyed the decor and comfort of the pub. Parking was easy and available. Only suggestions I’d make would be add some local beers rather than just the usual macro brewing offerings. I prefer a smaller menu as it makes me think the focus is more on quality than having a huge choice, but this is just my personal opinion.”

“Had a lovely dinner here - shared a ribeye steak and a few starters between us including the prawns. We had the steak medium rare and it was perfectly cooked as were the prawns. Allison was our waitress and she was super helpful with allergy requirements, and provided wonderful service.”

“Don’t like to leave bad reviews but was Absolutely gutted today as I ordered the lamb roast on Deliveroo today after reading all the comments I was really looking forward to it. But they just sent 3 piece of fat - more fat than lamb - and 2 1/2 potatoes (second picture was all the lamb I could save) but I was just left feeling Hungry and disappointed. I think they just thought because it was a delivery order they would send all the rubbish bits. One fatty bit maybe I’d of excused but all three bits…”
