About The Angelfish

The Angelfish is a family-owned breakfast restaurant and café at the Canal Visitor Centre in Bath, set beside the canal near the Dundas Aqueduct and a narrowboat marina. The D5 bus runs out from Bath, and the aqueduct is a short walk away. Breakfasts come with vegetarian and vegan choices, and the kitchen also makes dairy-free and gluten-free dishes. Lunch brings salads, sandwiches, pies, homemade sausage rolls and pasties, along with specials and tomato and basil soup. The cake selection is homemade and includes coffee and walnut cake and sticky date cake. Ice creams and a range of hot and cold drinks round out the menu. Inside, seating is spread over two levels. Tea is served in a teapot.

Customer Review Summary

Homemade cakes draw the most praise at this canalside cafe, with reviewers naming coffee and walnut, chocolate fudge, custard slice and an unusual sticky date cake. Close behind are the sausage rolls and pies, one reviewer calling theirs the best sausage roll of their life, another noting real chunks of chicken and extra gravy. Breakfasts, including a huge vegan one and a small one that still came out big, also earn mentions, along with salads such as chicken and bacon or goats cheese with beetroot, and a tomato and basil soup. Tea arrives in a teapot, and staff are repeatedly called friendly. Reviewers like the indoor and outdoor seating by the water. The recurring drawbacks are practical: one says the food took a while to arrive, another describes a busy breakfast run by one server, and a couple of reviewers mention having to pay for parking. One calls the food expensive but good quality. Several walk the canal afterward, and one stopped twice during a narrowboat holiday.

“An amazing choice and thankfully you didn’t have to chips with everything as is so often the case now. We both had a different salad - chicken & bacon and Goats cheese with beetroot, so tasty and a lovely mix of traditional salads ingredients and the chosen main ingredient also nicely presented. Great choice of savoury snacks and cakes. Can’t think of much they don’t do. Took a while for the food to be served hence the 4 stars. We will be back.”

“Decided to stop here for breakfast after staying in Bath. Got here just after 10 am and already getting busy. Had small breakfast - still big and a pot of tea. The cakes looked yummy but too full up. Friendly staff with a lovely setting and clean loos! Had to pay for parking £2.30 for 2 hours. Would thoroughly recommend.”
