Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return for the surprise tasting menu, where the chef often comes to the table to introduce dishes and chat, and the full menu is only handed over at the end. Wine pairings and the non-alcoholic pairing draw repeated praise, with one reviewer calling the non-alcoholic option one of the best they have tried. Close behind are the open kitchen, where diners watch the chefs cook, and a playlist that one diner found nostalgic. Specific dishes named include a mushroom soup that won over a self-declared mushroom hater and a "Cup of Soup" called exquisite. Staff are described as friendly and relaxed rather than pretentious, with each course explained. The one recurring caveat is cost, with several calling it expensive or rather high, though they still judged it right for a special occasion. One reviewer left a jumper behind and found it kept on a hook when they returned to collect it.

“Amazing experience all round. The staff were so friendly. With each dish served, they would explain everything, even giving some extra little fun details about the dishes. My dad had the wine flight with his meal and loved it - I stuck with rosé which was still amazing. The only things I didn't like were things I already don't really like pickle and onion - but we had a mushroom soup and for usually hating mushroom, I found myself wanting more!! I tried things I would usually hesitate t so I definitely count this as a win. Also, I had accidentally left my jumper there and had to return to pick it up, and the staff were still so kind and helpful! They even kept my jumper on a nice hook for me :) This is somewhere you have to go at least once - an all around amazing experience worth the price.”

“Had a great meal at Gordon Jones. It is worth mentioning that the prices are rather high however for a special occasion Gordon Jones' restaurant is perfect. The mood is so relaxed and not at all pretentious. Gordon came round and introduced a few of the dishes himself with a great sense of humour. Amelia (apologies for spelling) who chose the wine pairings for the wine menu was knowledgeable and came to explain each pairing and a brief history of the manufacturer. The food is flavourful and the dishes are masterfully created. The decor adds to a friendly and relaxed experience along with Gordon, and all of the staff's cheerful attitudes. Thank you for an unforgettable evening!”

“Blown away again by an outstanding experience at Menu GJ. Every single dish was amazing and perfectly paired with wine. High class service to match. Too many lovely dishes to choose from but a favourite was the ‘Cup of Soup’ which was exquisite.”

“Lovely little spot tucked away in a residential part of Bath, well away from the busier tourist areas. I really liked the surprise menu concept. The three chefs cook right in front of you, and each dish is brought over and explained by a member of the team. You’re given the day’s menu at the end, which is a nice touch. The food makes great use of local, seasonal produce, with creative dishes that bring together Eastern and Western influences. Well worth booking if you’re in Bath for a break.”

“We had such a great experience at Gordon Jones. The whole evening felt really well thought through, from the atmosphere to the food. The ambience was spot on, and the music choice added to it without ever feeling intrusive. The food was excellent. Since the menu changes daily, it’s hard to point to one specific dish, but what stood out across everything we tried was how clearly you could distinguish each ingredient while still being surprised by how well they all worked together. Every plate felt balanced and intentional, with combinations that were interesting without being overcomplicated. We also went for the non alcoholic pairing, and it was genuinely one of the best we’ve tried. It felt just as carefully curated as the food and really elevated the experience rather than feeling like an afterthought. Overall, it’s one of those places where the experience goes beyond just eating, but still keeps the focus on really good food. As a random tip, check out the bathroom decor, it’s a fun little detail that adds to the personality of the place.”
