About Bathampton Mill Bath

On Mill Lane, Bathampton Mill Bath is a gastropub set on the river, with a fireplace inside for a countryside setting. The menu draws on British cooking alongside Mediterranean dishes, with pork belly and pizzas among the options, and creme brulee for dessert. Tables are served by staff rather than ordered at a counter. Outdoor seating on the terrace overlooks the water, giving diners a spot to eat by the river. Dogs are welcome throughout, and a step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs. High chairs are available for families with young children, and a private dining room can hold groups. Reservations are recommended given the range of seating options. Those who prefer to eat elsewhere can order takeaway or have food delivered. Tea and coffee are served alongside the food menu, and the pub opens daily. Parking is available on site for those arriving by car.

Customer Review Summary

The riverside setting draws the most consistent praise, with reviewers repeatedly citing the terrace and garden views over the water as the main reason to return. Close behind, specific dishes stand out: the pork belly roast, recommended by one bartender, is praised for its crispy crackling and tender meat, while the sticky toffee pudding and halloumi fries also earn strong mentions, the latter called the best some diners have had. Several others single out the sea bass, billionaire fries, and a mushroom risotto with scallop as standouts. Set against this, service speed and food consistency recur as complaints: one party waited nearly two hours for food on a night reviewers described as understaffed, and another said cold fries arrived alongside a burnt pizza after a thirty minute wait, with tables left uncleared of previous customers' glasses. A few reviewers also flagged prices as high for what they got, pointing to an eighteen pound pizza and a pricey pint of Guinness. One diner's creme brulee arrived soft rather than crystallized and missing its toffee sauce, while another reviewer called the same dessert delicious.

“Honestly, the best service we’ve ever had! Huge thank you to Ned, Ellie, Izzy, Cienna and Lucy D for making our evening so special. Everyone was incredibly warm, welcoming and attentive, and they genuinely went above and beyond to make our night memorable. Exceptional hospitality from start to finish. We can’t wait to come back!”

“Really disappointing experience. We booked a table for 3 and arrived at 7pm. The restaurant wasn’t even that busy, but it was obvious they were seriously understaffed. We waited 1 hour and 50 minutes for our food after ordering. It wasn’t just us either – every table around us seemed to be waiting just as long. I honestly felt so bad for the servers. They were running around non-stop apologising to everyone. They were doing their best, but there just weren’t enough staff. When the food finally came, the portions were pretty small and it was just… mid. Definitely not worth waiting nearly two hours for. The staff weren’t the problem here. Management needs to hire more people instead of leaving the servers to take all the blame from unhappy customers.”

“The food was good when you eventually get it!!!! Be prepared for a loooonnnng wait for your food. There are not enough staff to cope with the amount of customers. Even though it is a nice place, I would not recommend it. Sorry.”

“We stopped at Bathampton Mill for drinks and enjoyed the lovely setting, especially sitting outside with our dog. It’s a great location by the water and a relaxing place to take a break. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming, although we felt the food looked a little overpriced compared with similar places. Overall, it’s a pleasant spot for a drink and to enjoy the surroundings, particularly if you’re visiting with a dog.”

“A big thank you to the absolutely lovely staff at Bathampton Mill. When my elderly mother was taken ill they couldn’t have been kinder and more attentive. We’d just had a delicious meal there too. So five stars all round - we’ll be back. And thank you all again.”
