Customer Review Summary

Steak pie is the dish diners raise most, one praising the steak pie with chips and thick gravy, another calling a steak and stilton pie the best they had, though that reviewer returned months later to a pie that was pure stilton. Close behind are a scampi that one regular orders weekly and Friday fish and chips with generous Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Reviewers repeatedly describe friendly staff, and one says the pub adjusted its seating for a child with additional needs. Others note it is dog friendly, warm and cozy, with few places to park. The complaints are serious. One diner found a chicken and bacon salad overcooked, dry and stringy, and says staff passed the comment on without an apology and charged the full amount. Another describes a Mother's Day meal of shop bought pâté, an uncooked bread roll and a poor beef dinner, with the full bill still charged after complaining. A birthday group of 21 reports food arriving piping hot and all at once, ending in clean plates.

“We had an afternoon tea today and it was delicious. More importantly the pub are extremely accommodating of children with additional needs. They made our son feel very welcome and even adjusted our pre-booked seating to accommodate our son's needs. Five stars from us.”

“Been to this pub today for tea for a catch up with an old friend. Was shocked to see it empty use to be packed every time I went. I had a chicken/ bacon salad £13. Well I could not cut the chicken let alone chew it! It was well over cooked dry and stringy. Very poor. Salad was also basic no coleslaw or anything just basic lettuce , tomatoe, cucumber, peepers and onion. When I told the bar staff I could not eat the chicken tell the chef it was well over cooked could not cut it even. They said yes we will tell him. No apology just took the full amount for a very poor meal which most of it was left in the dish. Shall never go back and looks like a lot of people feel the same. It was empty. The young bar staff woman was very friendly and talkative though, which was best thing about my tea today unfortunately. Looked nice till I tried cutting the chicken day light robbery!”

“Ive literally gone once a week juat for the scampi. Great service, amazing food, dog friendly and lovely location. Best kept secret in the area. Lunch time special prices making this an absolute bargain but still well worth full price anyway”

“What a find😊. The staff were so friendly and inviting. Particular thanks to Charlotte. I can only speak for the steak pie with chips and veggies and lovely thick tasty gravy. It was delicious. Value for money too. What's not to like. Only disappointment was that I couldn't manage a pudding😪. I'll be back.”
