Customer Review Summary
Freshly cooked, homemade food in large portions is what most reviewers praise, with the haddock and chips singled out for crisp batter and fresh mushy peas. Others name a homemade chicken and mushroom pate, sirloin steak, steak and ale pie and lasagna, and one diner calls the sticky toffee pudding delicious. Reviewers also describe friendly, welcoming staff, well kept real ales, a non alcoholic cider, a dog friendly area and good value, including a daytime deal menu. One notes there is no air-conditioning. Sunday lunch draws the sharpest criticism. One reviewer describes a spoonful of mash, a single carrot and piece of broccoli, a burnt yorkshire pudding and greasy roast potatoes, while another says the vegetables were hard and the roast potatoes tasteless. One diner also found the gammon's onion rings greasy. Two reviewers say the jam roly poly was warmed for too long, leaving the pastry hard and dried up.

“We had been for Sunday lunch today as we had many times before and to be honest the quality of the food was terrible. I had the roast pork with mash potatoes and vegetables and the pork was ok but there was a spoon full of of mash the veg was one small carrot and one broccoli branch with a burnt yorkshire pudding two roast potatoes that were greasy and a drizzle of gravy . You used to get your dinner on a plate with a turine of 3-4 different vegetables on the side . The dessert wasn’t much better the jam roll poly looked like it had been frozen the warmed up in the microwave which made the jam melt onto the plate and the pastry was hard as leather , we won’t be visiting there again in the near future”

“Great little find! After being at Sheffield Ice Arena, wanted to grab some food before heading home to Preston. Spotted this lovely place with good food reviews and we weren’t sorry. Great accommodating staff, we had the steak and ale pie and the lasagna, both excellent, will call here again if over this way.”
